Ok so I have a very large hital hernia that was not treatable by diet/exercise/medication. I take Nexium and that helps but I still have pain, long story short the doctor has 3 test for me to do, the first was an endoscopy and that wasn’t that bad, the next is a barium swallow test, and the last is a esaph function test where I have to be awake while they stick a tube up my nose and down inside and watch me swallow water, I am so full of anxiety about this I canceled the appointment, I am going to show up next time but just wondering if anyone else has done this or has any advice for me.

" I did the same thing except with the scope. I had problems for yrs with what I called " stomach spasms" at the top of my stomach. Two yrs ago they set me up for an endoscopy, had the IV in and basically preped. My anxiety was through the roof and they had to take the IV out and I left. I felt like an idiot but my anxiety went to full blown panic attack. I did go back and they sedated me quicker to ease the anxiety. The scope found nothing, not even ulcers, also had the upper GI but, my doctor didnt order the esaphogel test or ph test. All results showed nothing but, the problem /symptoms kept getting worse. So, this last March, Dr ordered another upper GI and this time, a Sliding Hiatal Hernia showed up. Mine too, was not treatable with meds, They did surgery called a laprascopic Nissen on April 29th.So much better now. Hope this helped some. You can do this, work with DR on meds for anxiety to help you get through the tests espeically is your suffering with the hernia like I did. HUGS>>>> "
