I had a hiatus hernia diagnosed 8 years ago and managed until recently to control it witholut medication. A couple of weeks ago I got what I though was a tummy bug coupled with problems breathing and slightly sore ears. After a week of this I came to the conclusion that it might be my hiatus hernia causing the problem so went to the doctor and discussed this The doctor agreed that the symptoms would add up to it being this, but he did no examinations or tests to confirm, just gave me 4 weeks worth of lansoprazole (prevacid). This was a week ago. Although I am having less problems with my breathing my stomach is very swollen and I am feeling very down. I feel as though there is something extra in my stomach. It feels crowded and I am worried that the doctor might be missing something. What can I do? I find doctors so dismissive; I feel that I may wait an hour in the waiting room just for the doctor to tell me to finish the course of medication and then come back if I still have a problem.

I suggest seeing a chiropractor, but not just any, they need to be a kinesiologist. This website lists chiropractors by state with their specialty. After 3 treatments my issue was resolved - I also took 2tbs of straight ginger root mixed with water for 10 days recommended by the chiropractor. I also subscribed to healthalert.com newsletter that has amazing info. on this condition and how to change your diet, etc. to resolve without prescriptions, which can make the problem worse. Good luck! I've been there, hang in there.
