Okay, I have been on suboxone for more than a year now, never higher than 16 mgs a day, and now i am at 8 mgs. I wish to stop cold turkey tomorrow for 50 hours and then start a methadone taper system. Yes I am doing this all on my own, because if it was up to my doctor he would keep dragging it out and I am done with this shit. I plan to start at 5mg, go to 10 the next day, then 20 the next day, and then start going down 5mg a day from there. It will total a 7 day taper detox on methadone, do you think this will work? Has anyone have any advice on getting off suboxone?

(I have no credible medical knowledge to base this on)
I'm a little afraid to answer this, but here it goes: I know that we do what we want to do, so I won't try to change your mind. Will it work? Well you will be able to offset the suboxone withdrawal you'd feel from jumping off at 8 mg a little bit, However.. even with 7 days to get as much suboxone out of your system as you can you're still going to have very definite withdrawal symptoms most likely. Each person has a different idea of what a manageable withdrawal feels like.. so it's hard to say. Even though they are different chemicals, they both act on opiate receptors and your mind and body are going to notice something isn't there just the same. They are both long-acting so it's going to be drawn out anyway. Instead of saying "just keep going down on your suboxone and get off gradually" which is most likely the best option. I'll just say that I hope you are mentally prepared and willing to get back on suboxone if this doesn't work out. I've seen people (me) get really frustrated and try to cut corners and end up using again. All that said, I do wish you luck, I don't really believe in a single road for all people, but some approaches are safer than others. This is a GREAT resource for at home opiate detox: http://www.drugs.com/forum/feature... You can definitely do everything on that list, and it will make it a more comfortable transition. Myself, when I did at home detox a couple times I only chose the big things from the list because I'm lazy, and I never wanted to fully prepare. I would really wait a week or two before you do this, buy all the things you need, start on the vitamins, start eating nutrient rich foods...etc.. Okay, I hope you can find something in this message that helps you.

I can't edit my post, but I was reviewing "The Thomas Recipe" link I gave you, I had forgotten that it mentioned taking benzos, I personally did not, living a life of recovery free from drugs means not taking prescription drugs illegally, even if it's not to "Get high" but to help you come off something it's still equally dangerous, so please just ignore that suggestion.

Hi,
Why would you want to use another dug just like "H" to get off suboxone, and then have to battle getting off of Methadone!!! I know that for me, I used both,"H", and Methadone. They both gave me what I was looking for. If your wanting off of the "S" are you sure your not talking yourself into a relapse? I don't know any doc who will give Methadone for a withdrawl from"S" Why are you tired of taking it? If it's doing it's job, and keeping you clean, why mess up a great thing. Debbie

It has been 2 years, it changes my personality and I have completely rid my life of anything drug related so now is a good time to get off it. It is a good thing that I've been clean but it is also being on drugs and I just want a clear mind. I know that NA works for a lot of people who use it right, but my opinion is that it is just a reminder, and a so called "trigger." When I hear people sit there and talk about when they got high, it makes me want to get high. People hardly ever talk about their recovery. I think what works best is to get back into the real world and avoid all people who have ever done H with you. Drugs in any form is not good for recovery. People always think they can just do benzos or like a vicodin every once and a while and they will be fine, but that is untrue, you will find yourself right back where you were. It is time to get off this SHIT and stop fucking around. I'm so sick of the excuses and lies, most h addicts are manipulative liars, and those are the kind of behaviors that most people need to unlearn and surrounding yourself with people who are ALL the same way doesn't really teach you to be a productive person in society. This is the one life we get, why are we doing this to ourselves??

Hey scumm311,
I'm happy to hear that you decided to come down slowly off of suboxone instead. Don't feel you need to defend your choice to stop taking it, yes it can be a wonderful tool for recovery, and it can and has helped many people. It helped me, but in the end the negative side-effects were too much, the way my body handled it personally, and I chose to get off it. I've been off suboxone for 30 days, I am physically feeling almost 90% normal. Though I feel great mentally, very excited about my life and future, though there are ups and downs. NA is something I use 100% and think personally is the best way for most people. NA is not about talking about using and triggering others, that could just be the meetings in your area, or the meetings you've tried. I know some places have stronger recovery communities than others, the meetings I go to, we only talk about what we were like (just the major points, not much detail), what we are like now, and how we got there. We talk about recovery, and life. I wish many good things for you in the future.

Why not just get off all of it? Can you go into a detox somewhere? Or taper and not add anything else. There are non addictive things to help. I never give medical advise even herbs as they are not regulated, but if your serious let your doctor know or find one that will do this without creating another monster.
