Confront him about the bathroom and tell him if he's got nothing to hide than to leave the door cracked or unlocked. The bathroom was my safe haven in family homes also, I also let the water run, and I also used a lighter as most junkies do to heat some of the cut out of the heroin to prepare it for shooting. Ask to see his arms, FULLY and thouroughly, not a quick glance. Look for pin marks, bruises, yellow tinted skin, things like that. OR, you can NOT confront him and just bust in on his ass when you hear that lighter flicker. I gaurantee hes sitting there heating the bottom of a spoon looking at you like oh shit.
He would likely have $ issues unless he has a really good job that he's managing to hold onto somehow. He'd have to leave at least one or twice a day to go get his shit. Does he have to rush outta the house in a hurry but never says where he's going or gives a BS excuse? He'd be nodding out if he was real high(falling asleep just sitting there) and likely be rather itchy. Weight loss is often times a sign but I have seen people who's weight is somehow not affected. Still trying to figure that one out. But, that's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you need anything or have any questions, please don't hesitate to message me or anything. The sound of the lighter could be the sound of smoking black tar heroin. There is no odor. Look for crumpled up foil.....keep track of the aluminum foil roll in the kitchen. About a 4" square of foil is all that is needed. Also water balloons that are tied and just look like they've been popped. Heroin is not just shot up------a lot of times it starts with smoking it. I'm sorry you're having to experience the agony of suspecting a loved one of using. If they're needing a fix, a lot of times they will be real agitated, and then after a phone call (you might not even be aware of it), a trip to the restroom, and everything is fine.

He just left with his friend, no idea where he went. I have a feeling though... so, I went into his jeep. In the center console I found a little baggie right on top with almost a very pale orangey powder. I have no idea what it is. Also, he has used H in the past and it was black tar. He told me all about his addiction and was very open about it, he said he used to smoke it (he then went into rehab and was clean until now). But obviously this is a different color so I'm not sure what it is. He already knows I'm suspicious since I've asked if he's using again and all I get it a "NO why does everyone think I'm using?!!" He gets all pissed off and leaves.

Since my first post he said he wants to go into the military. I do support that 100% but I'm not sure he's actually going to go through with it. Him, his grandfather and I are supposed to go see a recruiter later on today. When he told me his plan he said that he just can't be around this place knowing where to pick up and knowing who sells it, etc etc yet he never admitted that he's been using.

It seems to me what you found in the jeep is crystal meth. Some addicts will sub one drug for another. The signs of meth are does not eat much pubils big, is hyper, talks alot, stays up and picks skin. For h , eveything the guy before me said , also pubils are small , Good luck

I thin you do know, as you said "My Gut" we are always ready to discount what is is we know. Sometimes it's just because we are not ready to really do what is needed, close the door on him, and let him find his way into recovery. I know for myself everything I said was a lie to those around me, I mean everything.

The behavior say it alll, if he were not guilty of getting loaded agin why the getting so upset, and just leaving, and not telling you where he's going. It's just another game we play to make you feel guilty.

We are the greates manipulatos in the world. it is a disease, you have to remember that, and I would say to get into Alanon to get help for yourself.
There is nothing you can do for him to get him clean, NOTHING, so don't think your not doing enough, or that your not enough.

Yes the lighter gives him away, and I think even you not being around drugs, picked up on that some how, calll it a "God Shot".

This will only make you crazy as hell, and it doesn't affect us while we are using.

Also if he was not doing anything in the bathroom why even shut the door, or lock it for that matter?

We don't even shut the door when we go to the bathroom in our house, why we see eachother in the nude, and in all sorts of odd positions.

I totally know what your going through as I have been on both sides of the game.

I have been clean for years now, but my ex was on drugs, and he sure fooled me. I had been clean for so many years, and also around just clean people that I had forgotten a few things. Then oneday we were somewhere, and I looked up at him, and I got so terrified, as I knew what it was!! I just said I need to go home NOW!!!!

I ended that relationship, but he sure made me pay a price in doing so.

Be careful, your dealing with someone on a drug period, and well we will do anything to get high! All we know is we have to get to the dealer, and get the ballon, and I even fixed in the car driving home with it!!!

Going to any length to stay clean today, and have been for over 30 years coming up!

Herion signs: Needle marks; sleeping at unusual times; sweating; vomiting; coughing and sniffling; twitching; loss of appetite; contracted pupils; no response of pupils to light, nodding off, some people excessive talking.

Meth Signs: Hyperactivity; euphoria; irritability; anxiety; excessive talking followed by depression or excessive sleeping at odd times; may go long periods of time without eating or sleeping; dilated pupils; weight loss; dry mouth and nose.

If he swears he is clean ask him if you go to the store and get a drug pee test if he will take it? If he says yes go for it, after he comes from one of his mysterious bathroom jaunts.

I am also new to all of this, but I do know that they will do anything to get high. I was always pretty trusting when it came to my family. That bridge has been burnt and I can say that it has taken it's tole on me. Remember, they all have the gift of untruths and will come up with some believable story and leave quickly, always borrowing money to get a hard drive for his laptop, birthday present for his kids, etc. etc. and if you happen to piss them off, they will come at you with verbal abuse and sometimes harrass you until they decide to stop. Do not believe a thing they say if you have the slightest inkling they are using. I can guarantee you it is not the trust. Oh yeah, when they come back from the mysterious errand, beware of their driving, sometimes they crash into things (or have an accident because someone runs into them, as they say).
