You don't need to tell me this because I already know it. So I have been on suboxone for several months now and the other day I was approached in the grocery store parking lot by a dealer I used to go to, I was powerless they knew exactly what to say to me to bring down my defenses. That said I didn't utilize all the tools I had gained from treatment, meetings, etc.. so I won't claim to be a complete victim. So I stopped taking my suboxone that moment and for the last week have been using. The first few days I shot up again and again and couldn't get high because the suboxone was still in my system, I usually think of myself as a "smart" person, but looking back now that was incredibly dangerous. Now the bigger problem is that I can and have been getting high. This has gotten way out of control way too fast. I want to get back on my suboxone, but I don't know how to time it right, I need someone that has the knowledge or experience to give me an answer on how long it needs to be since my last use to take a suboxone. I haven't found any real suitable answers from search engines. I can't afford to go through any sort of withdrawal, final exams for the summer term are coming up and I've worked so hard for this Nursing program to mess up everything now. If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it.

On a side note I can't just tell my Dr. what's going on, I know that would be the best, but there are certain things in place that going to my Dr. about this would makes things much worse.

" What you need to do is to contact your Dr., and be 100% honest,, as in my opinion and thoughts is it certainly couldn't make matters worse - My son told me that you should start taking your suboxone again - immediately. He has been on suboxone for 2 years now, but he did relapse and use for a period of 24 hours, about 4-5 months ago. I don't think you were powerless, or that they knew exactly what to say to bring your defenses down. Relapses are not a spur of the moment thing, they are planned, whether consciously or sub-consciously. You are right about not using the tools that you were given in rehab, as well as at meetings. If you have a sponsor, I suggest you call him, and talk about your relapse, along with getting advise, ask for some type of direction to avoid this situation in the future. Since I am a recovering alcoholic/addict for the past 22 years, I can tell you this, if you are ever in a situation like this again, get the hell away from them, and get yourself to a meeting. When you are heading for that meeting, call your sponsor or another member in the program, and stay on the phone with them, until you are in the meeting. If you have a cell phone, program your sponsor's number, along with any other numbers you have gotten from other addicts who are working a good strong program. If you can't get ahold of one, keep calling, until you talk to someone. It's very difficult when an addict is new into their recovery, and there are triggers going off, this is a very critical time. It's also an essential time to get in contact with a recoverying addict that works a good strong program, as they will beable to get you though it.

I'm not going to beat you up for the situation you put yourself in, as you are probably doing an excellent job of beating yourself up. But I sure hope that you have indeed learned how dangerous this was, along with hoping you will get it together, and move forward with your life, and I am sure you will, with guidance from DS and the 12 step program.

Stay strong and keep the faith - a clean and sober life, beats the hell out of the horrible life of using. I will keep you in my prayers. "

" You are not an idiot. You are a human being in recovery. We are not saints!

Call your treatment center and talk to a counselor or your doctor. This will be the first step back into your recovery.

Believe me that that this is not unusual. May times is it a big part of our recovery and our understanding that we are truly addicts! Your Doctor or Counselor will be thrilled that you are wanting to be back into recovery and to be clean.

Take that First Step again and Believe.

You will be in my Prayers.

" you have to wait til after you kick from the heroin. DO NOT start taking it if you think the h is still in your system, you WILL get sick. this exact thing happened to by bf, he waited about 4-5 days til his withdrawl systems died down a bit. then he started again with the suboxone. still didnt feel the best, said he probably should have waited longer.

I agree with everyoene else, you should talk to your dr. But I would tell my bf the same thing, and he never would. So if you're dead set in your mind that you can't talk to him, they go by how your body feels - make sure the H is gone b4 you start with the suboxone. "

" For me after i had used i'd wait a day before taking the suboxone, or overnight, if I took it too soon it wouldnt do anything and i'd feel sick so u just have to wait it out a minute. Even though i havnt used heroin in quite some time now, I know I would never be able to turn it down if it were out in front of me, so its ok just try to keep yourself away from those familiar places and faces. Before I moved if I saw someone I used with or I knew was someone that used at a store or anywhere I wouldnt say Hi to them, talking to them would open up an opportunity for me to use so i had to avoid those people. Ive been on suboxone for too long probably but its the only thing for me that helps me maintain sobriety, so stick with it. "

" Sorry guys, I forgot to update this, I got caught up in all garbage and b/s. Today is my 30 days clean and sober, no heroin, no suboxone. I am doing as well as I can. I am very hopeful for the future. Thank you all for your support, comments, and advice!

If you were wondering, I ended up telling my doctor the whole truth, and I worked through it, looking back now, honesty is and was the best approach and always will be. It's hard to see that when you are caught up in the nonsense. "
