Hepatitis C 'epidemic' may spur STD testing

>Dr Daniel Fierer, of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine called the virus "an epidemic", and began studies on its spread and effects.

In a study of 21 men infected with HCV, Fierer found that injection drug use, which is typically the primary mode of transmission, did not seem to be a factor. He further more found from an examination of 30 liver biopsies, that 77 percent of those infected had developed stage 2 or stage 3 fibrosis.

Though such a rapid onset of fibrosis has never before been linked with HCV infection, Fierer suggested, "The good news is that the [rate of cure] is 75 percent, and perhaps better if treated sooner....<

I am convinced that HCV is more easily transmitted than previously believed. Look at how many people swear that they have no clue how they got it.
he case-control study, which involved detailed interviews on sexual history and drug use, found several factors more common among those with the novel infection:

Unprotected receptive anal sex, with (P=0.04) or without ejaculation (P=0.03)
Unprotected receptive oral sex with ejaculation (P=0.03)
Use of sex toys (P=0.03)
Having sex while high (P=0.01)
Use of marijuana (P=0.04)

Wtf? This is crazy and sounds very odd.

i dont care how people manage their lives but i will say that male and female genitalia fit together so incredibly that anything else is surey against nature. many monkeys are homosexual also and ancient carriers of hiv. i stand in awe of nature and genetic adaptations.

This sounds like the morality control freaks are once again trying to make people feel they will be punished by God for their 'wickedness'.

I dunno, I'd have to read more on this...this article sounds sketchy. All the research I've done denounces this. It may be something new, but it sounds like more research still needs to be done.

HCV being an STD, great like we need even more of a stigma.

I just met someone the other day at a conference on mental health. He has HIV and was diagnosed with Hep C. He's in stage 3, and a former vet. This is very interesting news.

mak, i thought we voted the morality freaks out of office. it was certainly my intention. my previous comment only speculates about the magnificance of nature. when a bird developes a 90degree beak curvature to extricate bugs from under rocks, that speaks volumes about nature. not a force to tamper with in my opinion.

Hep C is not a STD
The virus is not found in semen or vaginal fluids.
The only way it can be passed sexily is rough sex
where bleeding may a happen.

The thing to look at is the rapid on set of liver damage
Is this a new mutation of the virus
