Gettysburg is one of the most important trips I've ever made. I was afraid my g-sons were too young to absorb it, but they weren't, they got a lot out of it. Did you visit Antietem?
I took my kids to Chincoteaque for pony swim. Years later, took my g-sons. I love the beaches on Assateague but my hillybilly kids thought the water was "too salty". LOL.

hve not been to antietam, looking forward to it though, too funny about too salty comment, but thats what kids do isnt it, they speak the truth, tell it like it is. never ask a farmer or a kid whats on their mind because they will TELL YOU LOL

I grew up in Virginia with a history buff. I always figured I could be a tour guide if I failed at everthing else.
I remember Harpers Ferry back before they took John Browns body out of the noose.
