I had my post treatment blood work on Monday. I got home yesterday to a message from my dr.'s office that said only "we got some of your labs back and they look ok". Huh?
So I called and found out the HCV PCR results were missing and the lab was still trying to find them. Now I'm paranoid, if they "find" them can I trust the reports, or should I demand a do over? I am so tired of the screw ups I've encountered on this treatment. Posted on 11/06/09, 09:11 am |

lynn, medicine is one of the few businesses who dont have to divulge costs and are not required to produce results. wish you could visit a va hospital where effeciency is incredible to say the least. it gives you hope for our sickassed current commercial non- system..

Geez, Lynn, what a huge disappointment for you. You expect to hear the results of your VL and they can't find them??????
Hopefully, you'll get the results today so you don't have to wait over the weekend. Worse case scenario you go do them over but, yes, I would not be happy about it either. There have been lab screw ups for me too and I just don't understand how there can be so many screw ups with something so important. The day I went in for my 3 mo post tx VL test, they almost didn't do the VL because they were looking at the orders from October of LAST year. If I hadn't said something about being excited about getting the results of the VL, they would not have noticed they were looking at an old lab request. DUH! Good luck Lynne!!!

It is important to us and it is obviously just paperwork to them. I would consider a few things:
1) Switch docs but tell this one WHY you are switching (ie, incompetence of his staff) 2) Consider staying and tell the doc so...tell him someone on his staff is incompetent and HE needs to find the problem and fix it Call your local AMA and see if any complaints have been filed against him or his office. I have a great dentist - I hate his staff, though.. I am seriously consideing switching simply because of his staff. Good luck!

Remember that it might not be the doc's office...it might be the lab.
One time the lab sent my results to the completely WRONG doctor's office.

Sometimes I feel like it's becoming the story of my life, Joe! I feel like I been living in limbo since my diagnosis.
My lab is separate from the Dr.s office. It's such an important test (whether to continue treatment or not) I just hate that I have any question about it's accuracy just because they have lost track of it.

lynn, some of the more complex tests such as viral load are only analyzed in 1 or 2 places in the country im pretty sure. your snafu may not be the fault of your local providers.

lynn, i'd request a another test. (it's the labs fault not the doctors office)
trapshoot, i know exactly what you mean. my liver doctor is really knowledgable and competent but his office staff is awful. and of course i let 'em know while i was in treatment. screamed at 'em a few times. even my pharmacy said they were the worst! and i told them that bit of news too. they don't give a rats ass either. it's buggy!

I know that at least from where I live the PCR takes a week to 10 days to come back usually.....maybe it just is not back yet. I was told the same thing as what Capn said...almost everybody sends the blood out to the same labs!
