" If you scroll down, you'll find these paragraphs, under the heading, Smoking and Obesity Increase Risk of H1N1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is known that smoking greatly increases ones risk of severe complications from any flu virus. This is for several reasons. One, smokers eat a much poorer diet than non-smokers.
Second, smoking destroys the cilia in the bronchial passageways that are essential for clearing mucus and debris -- thus increasing the risk of developing pneumonia. Finally, nicotine is a very powerful immune suppressant. The combined effect of all three is enough to land anyone in the ICU during even a mild flu season. Likewise, chronic smokers have low magnesium levels, which increase their risk of developing bronchiospasm that is resistant to normal drug treatments.
That's where it says that nicotine is a very powerful immune suppressant. "
" i caught that after reading it mak. there was just a lot more to the story that caught my eye. the doc was totally against the vacc, called it a hyped up moneymaker. overweight smokers were at most risk, but the claim that vaccs can mutate years later really hit home. i firmly believe an army vacc recurred on me causing hcv. just a gut feeling since so many vets are hcv pos, so few used iv drugs. gee i sure wasnt tryin to detract from your point. i aint takin the vacc. good article.
