Now that I have been off the tx and a non-responder I also wonder if a drink once in a while, like 1 per week is bad? I not refering to daily drinking since I know that is not an option. Just thought I would put this out to get other peoples thoughts on this.....
I love this support group, I have recieved sooo much info from everyone and I try and go on here more often lately. Thanks Jean Posted on 11/04/09, 11:11 am |

I think that drinking alcohol occasionally is OK only if you are not concerned about the long-term health of your liver. The progression of the virus seems to me to be relatively unpredictable without the added variable of alcohol. It seems awful risky to me.........

It is probably in your best interest to pour out the wine and chew on the bottle.

Yes eat the cheese and pour out the wine........ lol On the other hand if you are literally talking about one glass of wine and that is what will make your day then enjoy it...... we only get one shot at this game we call life!!

I guess it depends on how much damage has been done to your liver?

Well when I was diagnosed in sept 08 I didn't know all the consequences of drinking fueling the fire for HCV. So before I went on treatment I went out for drinks two different times only had two drinks each time and by the time I started treatment two months later my viral load went from 257,000 to around 400,000.
So maybe a glass of wine once a year, not once a week. And like rbm said it would depend on your liver function. If your already a non-responder I would stay away from alcohol all together.

it doesn't seem like a good idea really. maybe 3 or 4 times a year wouldn't hurt, but once a week seems too much. alcohol is supposed to be like antiobiotics as far as harmful on the liver
