Hey everyone, My name is Corey I was diagnosed with Hep C about 3 weeks ago, Genotype 1B. Had a liver biopsy last week, and Im in Stage 3 YIKES! Im waiting for my HIV results (Which will be negative) before I can start treatment. I am a 30 year old African American male, and someone told me recently that African Americans have less of a chance of kicking this thing.. Does anyone know if thats true? My doctor told me that I have en extremely good chance of being cured because I am young and otherwise very healthy. So I was just wondering if this was true? Thanks so much!!!

" Well, I hate to say it, but the person that told you that is correct. For some reason males esp. AA males have a harder chance of beating the disease. I don't know why, but alot of time with males and anyone else its because it takes so long to diagnose. You have a great attitude and being young and healthy will help you out alot! So hang in there, this is a great site! "

" 1b and 1a are almost exactly the same when it comes to the chances of clearing it. Both are harder than 2.

I also have 1A and I have been cleared since week 15. "

" Women Just have a better chance I don't know why
And from I read the medical society don't know why also.
They are trying to find out why.
Your youth and health will give you the edge you will need.
I was 1a and did clear the virus.

" i'm 1A and have prob. had this virus for 30- 35 yrs yet i cleared it at 4 weeks. and still clear at 3 months. everyday say to yourself "i'm gonna be virus free." sounds silly but it sure can't hurt!

so you just gotta be positive, eat healthy now and don't drink or do drugs or smoke.

and i read that the younger you are when you do treatment the better! "
