Hi There Everyone, :)
I'm a new single-Mom to a just-turned 4 yr. old. Thankfully I just got notice that I got the job as an on-site Mini-Storage Manager, it's a relief, it'll be hard but I can do it. Lots of changes, but it was an abusive situation w/my child's Father, so I had no choice but to end-it. Unfortunately he still drinks all the time w/Hep. C; but what can ya' do? I'm going to apply for Medicaid. The question(s) I have are 1) Will they cancel my Medicaid/(or whatever they may call it here locally) if they find-out I already knew I had Hep. C? IF not, I have records; i.e.- lab results, bioposy done w/my genotype (btw, I can't remember the EXACT name of the genotype, but I do remember the Dr. saying I had "the best one of the worst" whatever one that is...also, there was barely any scarring. However, she said I should get the interferon/rib.(sp.?) treatment soon, BUT my Medicaid in that state ended, my ex made too much money (not really a lot, ya' know how that is) to allow me to qualify again..........So...of course whomever my new Dr. here in our new state ends-up I need/want to get my test results to them....ALSO, and most importantly WILL I be able to function/i.e. - WORK at my job while undergoing this treatment? I have NOONE to help me, and I'll have to work 6 days a week. ALSO, since I've only had it for around 7 yrs. do you think I can wait? Until things get easier possibly? I'm VERY strong and positive, and motivated as I'm a single-Mom, do people "trudge" through it? Thanks for ANY and ALL advice! :) And Blessings to You ALL! :) Posted on 07/05/09, 08:07 pm |

It does depend on state to state how insurance is handled. I do know that I will always be considered a HIGH RISK patient for ever as far as B C B S of N.C. is concerned even if I am undetectable. Good Luck....

Hi There :),
Thanks for all the responses, I live in Texas btw; and I do remember the Dr. saying it would be no more than 6 months. Also, I just had a test the other day a general blood test that tested for liver enymes as well, and nothing showed only a little bit of high cholesteral (much to my suprise)........... :)

I know it's frustrating when people can't give you a good answer when you ask how you will handle tx, but it's true that everyone handles it so differently. We don't all have the same side effects and our ability to continue working varies, too, both with the the person and the type of work.
I would seek your doc's advise about when to start tx ... Personally, I would do it as soon as you possibly can. Sounds like you are pretty healthy and at a relatively early stage of the disease. They say that while on tx, your liver gets a break and the disease doesn't progress... and if your tx clears the virus, further liver damage will be halted. It will continue until the virus is gone. This must be a hard decision to make... do you have a support system of friends and/or family? That is really important, imo.

Hi There, :)
I do have friends and family but my parents are elderly and couldn't take-over my job duties for me while I went through it, and my Brother works constantly his Sister and I are not close in the least, (LONG-STORY/never to be repaired, never were close)....... Friends, all working/busy. I guess, once I get the medical going, go to a Dr., get the advice etc., I'll just have faith that I can do it. It's not like I'll have to be at a corp. office job around a ton of people dressed-up etc. Once I start my job, the office is open 10-6, but it's not like people are coming in constantly, my house is 5 inches next door, my child will be in daycare at least 1/2 the day (9-2), I think I can hobble through it, as long as I'm not feeling the need to constantly vomit, if it's just fatigue, headachy I can trudge through, I'm pretty damn strong........lol..........

It really helps to have people around you who will help when you really need it, and when you need encouragement and company. From everything else you said, and what you know now, it sounds like a reasonable plan. Take it a step at a time and keep coming back here.
Your job situation sounds pretty good actually. The biggest concern I would have is, if you need your day(s) off for down time, what will happen with your son/daughter? An advantage in waiting is that new drugs will be on the market in a year or two. They are testing them now and some of them are promising to be as effective in 24 weeks for genotype 1 (instead of 48 wks). If they are, that's a HUGE improvement! Lots to consider!

Hi There Tangle, :)
My son will be in childcare at least 5 days a week and at least from am until afternoon........Yes, I've been thinking that they might have some new medication(s) coming-out soon, there is an ad running in a local paper for people with Hep. C to be a part of a study........unfortunately I can't do it b/c of all of the hours needed to go in and do labs, testing, etc., etc. BUT, I am positive that the Lord will provide/work things out for me/us.......... Thanks Again! :)

If you live around the Fort Worth area there is a Hep c support groups that meets once a month. If you on my profile the detials are there. I know what your going thru and can relate to all the question you have, Just like alot of the good people in this group can. You will find you can get alot of good advise on DS.
