Hi People: I was Undie after the 4 week SOC lead in, and then added the Vic...Und at 12 weeks, so I am treating ffor 28 weeks.
I have great aith in the Intereron and the ribaviran, because I took that for 4 weeks, and my viral load was undetected, and my greatly elevated liver enzymes were back to normal. According to my Doctor, I would have had a good chance at clearing my genotype 1a, with 48 weeks of the SOC, because of my 4 week soc RVR. So, how do I even know if the Victrelis made a difference? I mean, I know there is a percentage of people who arent responsive to Victrelis. Wouldn't it be safer to have me do the SOC for a few more months, once the Victrelis is over with? I mean, that's what I would prescribe, if I were a Doctor... Posted on 08/02/12, 12:05 am |

Hey Miss Cassy- there are several people on here who did the whole SOC with your genotype, but relapsed after ending treatment- some of them more than once. For lack of better scientific jargon, I think the Victrelis kills the virus and "keeps it killed".... for your specific genotype.
Hang in there!!

The Vic acts the same way that Incevik does.. there is a "slicer" gene that slices the virus (which is like a string) into two parts so it can replicate. The Vic and Incevik act like knife sheaths and goes in search of these slicer genes. When they find one, they cover it so it is no longer able to cut the virus string into two and there for, the virus cannot replicate itself.
I would say that your doctor is making the best choice for you, but you can certainly ask him why he is that route for you. Always ask questions when you don't understand why the doc is doing what he's doing. Hope you're doing better now. Take care, kelly

i did two rounds of SOC, relapsed after one, and the second was stopped because the VL didn't go undie
With Vic, everything worked on schedule. I did the 4 week run up with inf+riba, then 36 weeks of the triple, total of 40. The extra weeks for me are because I am a relapser while you're "treatment naive" So, two failed attempts without Vic, and VIC tx going just fine (18 weeks post treatment, undie at last test, 12 weeks post). I conclude that Vic made the difference. As Kelly said it has an additional technique of preventing the virus from replicating/cleaving. This isn't scientific, but I feel triple is like take a birth control pill, using a condom, and taking the morning after pill. not sure how it works, but somehow it does

Good explanation Kelly. My Dr explained Incivek as a Booster for the other two meds. Incivek pushes it over the top. I too was undetected at 4 weeks. Lucky? Meds? Who knows. It worked
