I have a theory......

A little history first:

Start of treatment, my HGB was 13.5 pretty good huh?

First week CBC showed that I was tanking...down to 10

Doc reduced Riba from 1000 to 400
weekly cbc's after showed HGB rising slowly finally reaching above 11 without rescue drugs, just the riba reduction.

Last week I was sick, so didn't go get CBC until Monday ( I usually go on Fridays) and it was 11.3. Doc upped the riba to 600 and said to still go on the next Friday and get another one to see if the extra Riba was going to tank me again.

Okay now here's where my theory starts...

My husband has been painting our house, huge job! So I decided I needed to help with the clean up etc. I was huffing and puffing trying to get air, my heart was beating a mile a minute, I got dizzy, but by god I forced myself to keep going! Well on Friday's cbc my HGB was 12.4!

So...despite added riba, 4 days later my HGB has gone up all by itself, and not just a little bit, over 1 whole point! Almost to what was normal for me.

My point here is that the body is a machine and if we DEMAND of it, it will produce! It recognized that I needed more oxygenated blood (to work helping with the paint clean up) and started to up the production all by itself.

I know you all are saying.... I don't have ANY energy at all! I know exactly what you're talking about. I spend the first 8 days of tx in bed! But I honestly think that we NEED to get moving, especially if you're anemic. DEMAND that your body work, and it will come through for you.

When I first came to DS, there was a guy that was a UPS Driver and he said that he worked full time all the way through tx. He said that it was difficult at times, really physical, but he was sure he was better for the physical effort that his job required him to do. It really helped him get through it all.

I am real excited that some of you guys are posting doing fun things that require you to get off the couch! Even when you don't feel like it. Honestly, I think this is the answer to several problems we are experiencing on tx.

Anyone else have an opinion? or been experiencing the same thing? As I said, it's just a new theory for me and I'd thought I'd share it.

Hope it's a great day for everyone!
Kelly

" Yeah, as long as I am not dealing with another flu or infection on top of treament and not dealing with incivik or anything, exercising has at times been my saving grave, I huff and puff but I am amazed as being able to get through it and then I've got more energy later on and at the same time the next day. Its as if you have to make energy to get energy. But having said that I know there are many who react biologically to the meds worse than me and it seems easier to do the exercise in the 3 days leading up to the interferon shot, I puff less. "

" I don't know too much, but it sounds like your in a fight for life. Maybe i'll be on regime like yours some day,, but I think I would just rather fight it naturally. I can go back as far as 1981 that i may have gotten hep c. Nobody really knows. Im 49 and got sober when I was 24. Haven;t a drink or drug since. Quit smoking when I was 28 because of signs of emphasema. I started to loose the lasticity in my lungs. I couldn't breath and felt like I was suffocating all the time. I was a heavy pot smoker and smoked alot during paraquat pot was around in mid 70's. Yeah do the math. I was kid . "

" @HyperC, we have some people here who have tried fighting naturally first, as well. They might be able to help with any questions you might have.
Maybe some can tell you their stories about that. I personally did not have to start tx like some people here had to. Their viral loads went way high, or they went from stage 1 to stage 3 or 4 very rapidly, and it was a you need to treat NOW kind of thing.

In my case, since I have had HCV for so long, it ruined my immune system to the point where it was virtually turned off, non functional. I would get sick constantly. Finally, I went to hemotologist who did some blood tests, told me I have Cryogoblemia (another gift from HCV) along with no immune system, and he said that I needed to treat ASAP. He said "Without an immune system, you are wide open for some very nasty bugs out there, and have no defense." So here I am. =)
I hope you tell us more about yourself and let us help when we can.
Take care,
Kelly "

" I have decided between bites munching on chocolate, that I have to start working to lose some more weight. I know I can do it, just have to get the mindset to eat more healthy food and to get off my ass and move more. Would help if hubby would stop bringing the yummy bad for you stuff into the house. If it isn't in he house, I won't go buy it. But, if I know it's there, I have to eat it... Wierd, huh?
I have to thin down to be able to keep up with a toddler in a couple years. That is my focus...
