Just wondering what type docs ya'll were seeing when diagnosed and during treatment. I went from gastro, who would not treat me because of side effects and low viral load to a hepatologist who seems to want me to do clinical trials. I am stage 3 and have had hep c for 32 yrs and now insurance company must pre-approve the interferon. Any vets out there that could advise on how to get treatment from VA? I am still in military but they are trying to kick me out due to illness. I think I can handle treatment. Might be foolin myself but have to try. Spoke with insurance co tday and more confused than ever. Starting to get bummed out and depressed. Thanks for the opportunity to vent. Warm fuzzies to all.

" One of my Dr. nurses, has a father that is a vet and gets his treatment from the va hospital. But I know there are other people on here that are vets or still active in the military so hopefully you will get some answers. Good luck to you. "

" Listen to cap!!! You deserve TX through the VA.

DS member Gatorbuzz also knows about the VA---send him a personal message cuz he's not on that much anymore and he might not see this. "

I haven't read through the above site, but it might have some good info for you. I'm sure that, not too long ago, I read somewhere that the military does not boot people out just because they have Hep C...but, if their symptoms cause them to not be able to do the job, then they might.

Don't get bummed and depressed...get active and fight whatever barriers that are put up against you in your quest for medical treatment...FIGHT! Everyone deserves medical treatment and especially our military people!

My son was diagnosed with testicular cancer 2 days after he got home from his 2nd tour in Iraq. It was a fight to get military medical coverage for him but FIGHT we most certainly did. The battle became almost like a full time job for me and my son but, in the end, his cancer was determined to be military-related and he is now on full military health care for life.

Best of luck and stick with us here and keep us updated. "
