Hello, I have been dealing with Hep C since I was in grade school, and recently found out that not only has mine has advanced to Cirrhosis, but my 3 year old son was diagnosed with HCV as well.
Does anyone know of any sites or studies done on children born with it? Thank you in advance for any advise. (PS for any woman going to have children and have HCV, they say it is very small % of babies that contract it in utero...I had an extremely difficult labor with DIC.... but it is extra important to stay as healthy as possible before and during your pregnancy, and have children screened AFTER 1 year) Posted on 07/05/09, 09:07 am |

Riversmom06, I'm very sorry to hear your son has Hep C too. Always a very stressful situation.
I got Hep C when I was 2 days old from a transfusion...I'm now 54 years old. Soafraid, I'm not sure why your doc would want your daughter to wait until she's 28. I see no benefit to waiting, in fact, DS member Tincup has a 17 yo daughter who has Hep C and she already has a stage 4 liver...do NOT wait!

Soafraid, I gave birth to 3 children while I unknowingly had Hep C and they are all negative (2 of them were C-sections too). I'm sure your daughters are fine and I don't like suggesting that people go against doctor's advice but I really see no reason to wait to get them tested.

I would say get them test soafraid
1. If you get them test and it negative you mind will be at ease 2. if the test is positive, well with a good diet don't drink and don't do drugs Hep C does little damage. If caught early they will live to a rape old age. And by that time we hope there will be a cure

P.S. For one thing, it would give you peace of mind so you can stop worrying about it.
