Got the news yesterday : (

I was kind of depressed and a little tired which is out of character for me which prompted the doctor visit and blood work. I found out I have Chronic Hep C. I was advised to have a liver biopsy. I was devastated I don't know when or how I got it. Just found out through a letter from Kaiser yesterday I have Stage 2 Grade 2. I know nothing more. Another problem is I have a husband that is disabled with many health problems one being he does not have an adrenal gland which means I can't upset him with this or he gets sick literally with fear for me. I don't have anyone else I can share this with so I am looking for support and any help with what to do? I have been the strong one in my family always and don't know how to be the sick one. I found this site online while trying to find out more about this disease. I see from other entrees tho I am lucky. I don't have any other signs other than I am kind of tired and depression. I have no idea what my options are yet, the letter just said call them if I want to get help. I am scared now on so many levels. Can anyone tell me what I could start with? I did read about milk thistle, exercise and diet till I can get treatment. I don’t drink and have not done drugs. I weigh 104 now and am 5’5” tall so what foods would put on weight for a better fighting chance? Any advice?

" Welcome YepCinder.

I'm surprised they don't know your viral load or geno type but yet they have done a liver biopsy. Make sure you find out what your genotype is. Type 1 means 48 weeks of treatment and types 2 and 3 mean 24 weeks of treatment.

As far as your weight, a lower weight can actually be a good thing when taking Hep C treatment. I have read that a lower body weight gives a better chance with treatment. Your weight is low already so don't go any lower though. If you need help keeping your weight stable, try a supplemental protein drink with your meals such as Boost (which is a cheaper version of Ensure).

The more you learn about Hep C the better off you'll be. Try to learn as much as you can before you see your doc because it will help you to ask better questions. Here's another good website to learn from:

" I take Milk Thistle, folic acid and Vitamins B & C. Check with your doctor before you take vitamins. Milk thistle is safe...... Drink plenty of water, rest when you need to.
This is a great group of people, you will learn a lot from them. "
