How to cope.

Hello, I hope that it is okay if I join your group. I really have no support system right now and am reaching out. I adopted two children from an IV drug user. She loved them dearly but was very sick with her Hepatitis C. I knew there was a risk of them having Hep C but I was willing to take it. The oldest tests positive for the antibody but is now almost 8 and still no detectable RNA. The youngest (age 4) has a viral load and is genotype 1b. Most days I am pretty okay with everything but I have my days where my heart is so heavy for her. Why her? What did she ever do? I also have fears because I have 5 other children and I want to keep them safe too. My Hepatologists swears that as long as we don't share personal items, and I use precautions with her blood, there is really no risk to them. I don't treat her any different than the rest. We use gloves with all 7 just so she doesn't feel wierd. We tell her that everybodies blood has nasty germs and we should NEVER touch it. I just want to make sure I am doing everything I can for her. Thanks for listening.

" Thanks TATTMAN22.. I was a little freaked out when we first found out but decided to just always use a barrier when touching blood and all would be fine. I had a baby sitter tell me that I should be wearing gloves when I changed her diaper but the Hepatogogist just said the unless I suspected blood in her bm, there was really no risk. I sometimes still used them just because I hate Poop.... but most of the time we just treat her like a normal 4 year old. I usually let her babysitters know just so they don't take any un-do risks... Everyone keeps saying that the risk to family member is extremely low but you can't rule it out. There are too many people that don't even know how they got it. I had a really bad couple of weeks a while back because we told we needed to have our daughter tested for HIV because of the mother. We were terrified but had her tested anyway and THANK GOD>>> it was negative..... Compared to that scare,,,, this one I can conquer. We plan on fighting this one as hard as we can.... "
