Discussion:
Hep B carrier and live a normal life?
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
Hi everyone, I am becoming increasingly concerned about being a Hep B carrier. I was diagnosed with it since I was 10 in China. I have no clue how I contracted this terrible disease. I used to pray everyday that I can be free of this disease, but I stopped doing that knowing the chance of it is slim. I am afraid of telling my friends and people due to the fear of being rejected. Anyhow, I have been accepted to a med school. So I had to get a physical and just found out that my liver enzyme is around 400, which the normal range is 50. This could mean that the virus is reactivated. Now I am a bit concerned and scared. At the same time, I am worry about my future. I mean can I live a normal life and have a family? I don't know, I am just a bit down and scared about this.

" Hello Qling86,

Dont give up on your dreams. My mother was diagnosed a few years after I was born. Both my sister and I contracted the disease at birth. My mom was a nurse at the time and went on to work another 30+ years in the ER, OR and various doctor's offices without any problems due to her status. You can continue to have a normal happy life and a family if you so desire. Keep your head up!

" Hi QLing86,
Don't be afraid,i'm also a carrier,and i'm also a med student, and i'm hoping to be a hepatologist, it's the dream i'm living with :)
As your labs showed increased liver enz, i think u should consult a liver specialist.

Wish you a great doctor,

" Hey Qling86...this is my first post and I feel exactly the same. I didn't know until recently, but I was born with it and still sometimes blame my parents (even though that solves nothing). I recently just started telling my friends, but it's still a tough subject that neither me or my friends understand very well.

Recently my liver enzyme came back incredibly high and the new primary physician I just started seeing was concerned. After talking to my gastro doctor, he said that until my body starts fighting back and I start showing symptoms, there's nothing I can do besides take care of my body. (I'm 21 and have no symptoms but am a carrier)

I sometimes get incredibly scared all of a sudden but you've just gotta take it one day at a time. "

" hey kyaw and eve7,

Thank you guys for the support. It def. ease my anxiety about it knowing that there are people out there experiencing the same thing as me. Of course, I am sorry that we all have to through this, needless to say I don't feel as lonely as before. I am glad that I found this site and be able to discuss my concerns openly. THANK YOU GUYS!!!!

I went to an infectious disease specialist a couple of months ago. I've found out that the virus is active, which the e antigen is positive on my blood test. Also, my viral load is about 18 million. So as of right now, I am currently on tyzeka to reduce the count and hopefully to get rid the e antigen. I freaked out for a couple weeks after learning this. I mean the part that really kills me is knowing that I am contagious, not the actual disease. I have told my best friend that I don't care about getting a disease that will kill me in a couple of months without being contagious. For example, like getting a cancer. But this is more a torture, I am healthy yet I am infectious and can potentially give this disease to someone else. I hate feeling that I am a threat or dangerous and knowing that people are scare of me. For instance, my brother freaked out on me a couple of weeks ago when he thought I was double dipping. For me, this hurts a lot and I feel dirty and gross.

I don't know, but I feel that this virus affects almost every aspects of my like, in terms of my social life, love life and as a health professional. My ideal future would be become a doctor and have a happy marriage with children. I guess I am worry about dating, I mean how can I come out and just tell someone I am interested about this without like scaring him away. I don't know, maybe I am thinking a bit too much!!! Oh well, it is what it is!!! I guess I have to stay positive about this and be brave!

Yeah, as of now, I think I will still be able to attend the med school this upcoming summer. This school has not send me a notice yet to reject me based on the reactivation of the virus. I am on med right now to take care of it and also, my doctor said that he will write a letter if anything. So, I am quite content right now and very excited about med school!!!! "

" living with fear and worries is normal. I mean who doesn't? We just have to remind ourselves not to succumb to the thing that we are chronic carriers and be always sad about it. Everybody has their own share own share of frustrations, trials, challenges.
Be strong, or at least try to. I am having a hard time and I am saying the same thing to myself too.
Hold my hand and never let go of it, because my other hand is also being held by other hepatitis-infected angel in this group. Let us form a mighty chain of hope, inspiration, and faith among us so others can have something sturdy to hang on to during times of defeat. "

" i wish you the best!! but you have to approach the dating life with a little bit more caution. Make sure you tell , although, i personally havent figured out how to do that. i usually break it off before we even get close enough or the ones i get involved with, i make sure they have the vaccinaton without tell them i have it but as soon as sex comes up.. i bailed out..:(..lol "
