Hi Folks,
About 3 hours ago, I got the news following a routine work related physical that "you have a positive Hepatitis B surface antigen compatible with a chronic Hepatitis B infection." I got news via email since I am currently overseas and had physical while home in US for a visit. I called the doctor and he wants me to follow up with a physician here to verify and check liver. I am stunned at the moment! I never imagined facing this! I am middle aged guy who is in exclusive relationship for many years and not sexually promiscuous. I am guessing I might have contracted it when having a surgery in overseas location last year where hepatitis is prevelant. Anyway, MY WORLD IS ROCKED right now. I did some searches on the disease and found this support group. I thought I needed to express some of my shock to someone, somewhere since I can't sleep anyway. I don't know whether to cry, scream, run off a cliff, talk to someone, not talk to someone. The implications of this news is more than I can process. I think I am mostly in shock. Forgive me for blathering on but I could use any support as I begin to come to terms with this dreadful news. How did you survive the first hours? days? weeks? Your support is greatly appreciated. Hi...I found out in 2007 and am 49 now..I also was in long term relationships and had just broken up with my last for he was a cheater. I went for full tests just for my own pc of mind and found out then...i know what you are going through and was also shocked as you...for me I have continued to test every 6 months with no signs at all of HB. It is extremely prevalent more than it is known until the optional shot was made available to children a few years back. There are not many groups out there on HB where I was relieved to find this site. My advise is to stay calm, live and eat healthy. Do your homework...there a many medical sites covering everything you need to know. If you dont understand your tests, dont hesitant to contact your doctor again until you do. Another is to think about who needs to know in your social world and family. I chose to wait and not communicate this until I had time to digest all of this information. Feel free to write.. I'll check in from time to time. -D

When i was first told about my heb b carrier, i was devasted. I'm married and i didnt play up sexually or drugs wise. I was refered to a liver specialist after a blood test. He told me what it meant in a nut shell. That was in 1997 approx and just about every year , i would get a regular blood check for liver and heb b status. At first , i was devestated and to be honest... all this google and forums made me feel more scared. My doctor told me to inform the people that could be @ high risk of contracting it from me and even my dentist. Im bit worried about the dentist coz they might treat me as a leppa. My advise to you is ,stay cool and get blood test every year and dont drink too much. Alot of cronics have a long life without complications and you can be one of them.
