Anal what?! You read the title correctly but don't freak out. Anal fissures are a real condition and not the creation of some middle school boy. Anal fissures are a common problem many suffer from. The young and old alike can suffer from them and people from all walks of life can suffer from them. Fortunately, they can be easily treated.
Anal fissures are a tear in the lower anal cavity. These tears have a variety of causes. They can be caused by passing an unusually large stool or severe constipation. They can also be caused by childbirth or possibly from anal sex. Generally, something which causes an extreme stretching of the anal cavity resulting in damage. Regardless, it is fairly unlikely anyone is going to talk about their problem – even with their best of friends. Whatever the source might be, anal fissures can be extremely painful and can itch as well! Blood is often seen after going to the bathroom but not as part of the stool. It would be on the surface of the stool or entirely separate of the stool. If there is blood incorporated in the stool, something more serious is occurring than anal fissures and one must see their doctor. The pain can be so extreme that many might want to put off going to the bathroom. Do not do so! It can only lead to worse problems. One needs to bite the bullet and go to the bathroom despite the discomfort. You will not hear about these symptoms at your next cocktail party. So what does one do if they suffer from anal fissures? First and foremost, follow your doctor's advice. One can not second guess their physician. A common anal fissures treatment is frequent soaks in an Epsom salt bath which helps facilitate healing or the purchase of a product that provides relief and healing. Anal fissures can be treated with a variety of salves as well. Hemorrhoid creams can provide some relief from the pain but really do not really facilitate in healing. Often, they are used in conjunction with baths and a higher fiber diet. Healing does occur when treatment is undertaken but it can take months to heal. In the case of extreme fissures, surgery might be called for. If this is the case, it is an invasive procedure but, while it can heal the old fissure, it can lead to other ones forming. Clearly, one wants to avoid surgery at all costs. If one looks, they can find anal fissures treatment options which offer the benefits of both hemorrhoid creams and, to a degree, surgery. These treatments offer both the soothing of pain and itching was well as healing properties. These treatments, when used along with soaks and a high fiber diet can help relieve the problem and let sufferers get on with their lives. Posted on 08/14/09, 05:08 pm |

Whenever I pass a large, hard stool there will be a smear of blood on the toilet paper. It will also feel like I am passing out shards of glass. Most of the time the pain passes after I finish but every once in awhile it will ache or burn for a little while after. It's alarming to see a smear of blood on the tissue after going for a bowel movement.

I was freaked out when I saw blood on the toilet paper today. It made me finally realize that I can't live without fiber in my diet, despite my busy schedule.
