My hemorrhoids were bleeding so bad that I had to have 2 blood transfusions in a matter of 18 month and additional iron infusions. I went on a gluten free diet because I had a lot of stomach problems and guess what; My hemorrhoid problem went away. I mean they are still there but no longer swollen, they don't bleed anymore and they are not inflammed. My hemoglobin and iron are now in the normal range and all the pain and burning is gone. Try gluten free for a week or so. It helped me so much. I was scheduled for surgery and I canceled it because it is not necessary for me to have it anymore. I posted part of this under Recommendation too, because I want as many people as possible to see this. Food sensitivity is so underrated. Doctor's don't consider it. I had 6 doctor's and none of them even thought to test me for a food sensitivity. All of them said I needed surgery.

It is not as hard as it first seems to be on a Gluten Free Diet. You can not eat anything that contains Wheat, Flour, Rye Barley or Oats.
You can buy Rice Bread which tastes really good, I actually like it better than the regular bread. There are also bread and rolls made from Tapioca Flour. You can buy gluten free cookies and pasta made of rice or corn. There are a lot of food that is gluten free that you already eat. Meat is gluten free. The gravy is not. Potatos are gluten free and so is rice. Meijer has gluten free foods and of course the whole food stores. They have support websites and blogs where you can get info. Even some restaurants have gluten free menus. Just try it for a week and see if it helps you with the hemorrhoids. It helped me so much, I will never go back to eating gluten. And belive me I love pasta and Pizza and cookies but not enough to risk getting that terrible pain back that I had.

I had IBS trigger to gluten. When I stopped wheat I stopped having spasms. I still have IBS but it is incredible what wheat did to my body. It caused serious constipation in me that caused my hemmorids. I had to have surgery and I would get stabbing pain in them for no reason some time. People really need to drop the wheat in my opinion, everyone!

So adding more fiber to your diet might make hemorrhoids worse for some people?

No, fiber is really important. But like for me being sensitive to wheat. Don't eat a fiber related to the wheat family. There are so many different kinds of fiber out there. The only whole grain I ever heard about was whole wheat. Was surprised to see how nicer my stool is eating whole grain foods that isn't in the wheat family. Like sorghum and buckwheat. And the fiber in brown rice flour.

I was tested for celiac's over a year ago and it was negative so I continued to eat gluten products. Recently, I had a flare-up of my hemorroids that was bringing me to tears. When I read that gluten sensitivity can cause swelling and inflammation, I decided to try going gluten-free as an experiment. Well, it's been only two days and the difference is amazing. The hemorrhoids have just quieted down and don't burn anymore. I shopped at Whole Foods today and found lots of great g-f products. I hope the relief continues. Thank you so much for confirming what I thought made sense.

I was just browsing around, and I came onto these posts from you all about gluten-free. I am going to try it. I am so sick of feeling sick. My poor bottom is raw all the time, and I have all these gut symptoms plus ulcers. Wish me luck. I need it at this point. But, now I have some new hope. Thank you for being here!
