It happened to me once, and I also believe I set off one of those things that deactivates metal detectors on products at Wal-Mart.

I set off a metal detector for no reason at Target once I watched tons of other people walk passed the same detector, and nothing, I checked my clothes, and shoes for metal and left my keys and purse on the other side, and still set it off. I didn't know until later I had hemochromatosis, and also didn't know thta others had had this happen as well. I knew i had hemochromatosis when the metal detector thingy at wal-mart went off. It was wierd because it was doing that funny boing sound over and over again, I asked the clerk how long it had been doing that and she said it started when I walked up to the ocunter, and I said well has it odne thta before she said no, I told I was probably setting it off, and she kinda thought I was insane until it stopeed while I was walking away from it.

" Those aren't metal detectors per say. They are more like "magnetic" detectors. You probably had a security sticker on the bottom of your shoe or in a new purse or wallet. "

" Before being diagnosed, I set off metal detectors at the airport several times. They would take the wand to me and it would do a low buzz over my abdomen. They would ask if I had any metal plates or anything. The last time it did it was shortly after my diagnoses, but before completing my deironing. My ferritin was over 1000. "

" One of my sisters can not wear a watch, whenever she puts them on they stop. Shejust found out she has hh, the hard way. She is in I.C.U. but is making good progress. When I heard her ferritin level I was shocked. My level at diagnoses was 4124, hers is this is no joke,40,000. I dont recall ever setting off any metal/magnet detectors. "

" My sister was able to return home Aug. 27, it sounds like they may have mis read her first reading. The last time I was at the hospital her iron was at 680, can't imagine the numbers could recovfr that quickly. Also liver functions are back, kidneys are working fine. She still has to have more heart tests, was only working nat about 30%. I am amazed how well she is doing compared how she was two weeks ago. Thanks for all the prayers. Hope all is well. "
