i had congestive heart failure at age 23(january 2005), after having my first baby. it was the scariest experience of my life. i remember my ankles being swelled up so big i couldnt even get my socks on. i couldnt sleep because i couldnt lay down because when i did, i wasnt able to breathe. here i am, a brand new mom trying to take care of a 5 day old baby and i cant even function. my babys dad came home one day & finally took my complaints serious & called 911...i spent 4 days in the hospital & have been fine since. i had another baby, even though i was told not to because having a baby is what triggered the CHF in the first place, and everything went well. the doctor said my heart got a little weaker but i survived. i was on tons of meds at first, but now i just take coreg and i feel normal! thanks for listening!!

" i am glad that you are doing so well. i met a young lady 34 who said that she is unable to have a baby now due to the chf. she found out she had it at 29 while she was pregnant & lost that baby. it is really a blessing that you are doing so well & were able to have another child. obviously you are doing something right. keep up the good work. i was diagnosed dec 26 2008 & i am still on a lot of meds. my docotor says i will probably be able to go off digoxin & spirolactone in january of 2010. i am looking forward to that. " You took a big chance with the pregnancies, but what you did is very admirable. Don't push your luck and continue to take care of yourself so you can deal with two toddlers lol. I wish I had been forewarned of my heart condition before attempting childbirth, I guess I will always be perplexed as to why I wasn't told of my condition. You have meds now to give you the 'competitive edge', you have a great life ahead of you.....enjoy! "
