Why exercise?

Why are we advised to exercise when physical activity brings on breathlessness and sweating? My heart thumps so hard all the time I can't understand how more stress on it can be beneficial...?? Given the right motivation, I'm ready to apply myself.....

" hi...i was told by my cardiologist about walking and small weights....only exercise i can do is on her authorization...based on my condition and my meds..be sure to have any exercise cleared by your docs..if you have opportunity for cardiac rehab it will give you good start on the rest of your life... " I went to cardiac rehab. And I started VERY slowly. 5 minutes at a time. I have worked up to 46 minutes as of today. However, I am still involved in cardiac rehab. You will get better. My goal 12 weeks ago was to be able to clean my 1 bedroom apartment. As of last week, I did it. "

" Cardiac rehab? I think the walking and small weights are more than enough for me right now! Vacuuming and doing the stairs are quite a workout for me at this point...... "

" might have to do with stress hormones that build up when you are stagnant for too long. but i asked this same question but in a different way...

when you exercise, you usually have protruding veins, which means your muscles are getting more oxygenated blood. when you have palpitations ...only your heart is the muscle getting the blood...so i'mnot sure why it's bad, but exercise also tends to lower your overall resting heart rate. so, it's good i guess. " Got news for you. I couldn't vacuum for a long time. In fact, it was only a month ago that I could vacuum my whole apartment in one day. And stairs. I still can't do stairs. It is a SLOW process. And cardiac rehab tells you how to do it. I started out walking only 5 minutes in the beginning. "

" Here's a good reason to exercise -
When my heart failed and I was down to an EF = 10 pct due to a bad case of pnemonia damaging my heart - I haad been bench pressing 225 pounds and working out consistantly. The pnemonia really wiped me out completely. They did not even tell me but they did not expect me to even last out the week. That was in april 2007.

The reason I am still here is that my body was in great shape from exercise and working out 3x/week.

My body had built up alternate paths for my heart.

Now that is a good reason to work out. "
