Caffeine and DCM?

Just curious. Any thoughts?

I always figured caffeine pills to be a form of "upper". I am addicted to my coffee. My hubby (the one with the DCM,COPD,Hypotension) has started taking Jet Alert. I don't like this one bit. Am I right to worry, or are they really "JUST LIKE 2 CUPS OF COFFEE" as the bottle says? He has been sleeping TERRIBLY, alternating between quick naps and crashing for HOURS in the day, waking cranky, coughing ALOT, and short of breath exasperatedly. I am concerned, not just about these pills, but also his general behaviour. Almost reckless to a point. In my opinion, drinking alcohol (On weekends but losing count) and taking these pills is an upper/downer cycle that can only be stopped UNDER physician care, or will only get worse requiring more and more. It is also likened to a behaviour I have wittnessed ALOT. People who get SKIN CANCER (being told occured from over exposure to the sun, and then guess what....Laying out in the sun). I just don't get how you CAN KNOW that your health is endangered, and not only continue BUT increase your chances of problems. Am I being selfish, and/or worrying over nothing as usual, or is this a real cause for concern?

" i was told by my cardiologist to drink caffeine free coffee, soda & drinks. it can increase the heart rhythm. make it beat faster which is not a good thing for heart failure patients. i say it is dangerous what he is doing. "

" I can't touch caffeine either. I have heard some people who refuse to admit they have a health problem. And they just go out and destroy themselves. What a wife thinks of as helpful and caring...they see as meddling. I've seen it time and again. Sadly, perhaps you should back off and let him fall flat on his face. I saw a woman smoking in the hospital before her cath. The doctor walked in and told her he was done trying to help someone who wanted to die!! It's up to me whether or not I take care of my condition. Much like an alcoholic and/or addict. They are killing themselves daily. "
