O.K. Hubby got his coverage for RX. GREAT, right? Well, in an attempt to get a Steroid Inhaler (like the Dr. prescribed ),I called the Dr. because Hubby called me from work saying he could barely breath (VERY HOT WEATHER), had no energy, and just wanted to sleep. I asked her if maybe Hubby needed Oxygen, she (receptionist) said "I can't tell you that, he should've come in for his follow-up or picked up his medicine like he was told to do". I asked if I could speak with the Dr. or nurse, and SHE told me NO, because I should've brought him in, and now he'll have to be seen. I asked her if SHE could call in a seperate prescript for his other inhaler (Proair in exchange for Provental), and try to find a steroid inhaler that our RX will cover. she said "when I can get to it". That was at 10ish AM this morning. I asked her if I should leave my number for her to call me back and let me know what they've decided. She said "NO, just call the pharmacy later this afternoon and see what they have to say. SHE DID NOT EVEN CALL THE PHARMACY. So....now we have ONLY the emergency inhaler. I come online at the recommendation of the pharmacists to see if I CAN find a replacement for QVAR that our RX program covers....What I DID find is that QVAR is used to treat ASTHMA, NOT COPD NOR DCM. Now I dont even knnow if I should pay the 80$ for the inhaler when it seems WRONG to me. Does anyone know about this inhaler, and am I wrong or does a person who CANNOT BREATH OR CATCH HIS BREATH NEED OXYGEN?? Now Im scared, and even more confused.

" He needs to see the doctor. When I have those symptoms I end up in the ER and they do breathing treatments. A receptionist can' prescribe. He needs to be seen and should have gone to the ER. "

" Hello, I have moderate heart failure, and I see a cardiologist regularly. Does he have a cardiologist who is managing that? I am sure this was very scary for you and for him. It would be nice for him to have a physician follow him on a regular basis. The reason for shortness of breath is important to know, cause it can affect the management and the drugs prescribed. It will be very helpful for him to schedule a new patient appointment (more time) if he does not have a primary physician. i suggest an internist, who can refer him to a pulmonologist if needed. I hope he is doing better now. To give him good care, he needs to be seen and evaluated. Inhalers are complex. Heart failure is complex. There need to be good clinical reasons for prescribing an inhaler.
I think you have received good advice from Lynnedz56, and I hope things are more resolved for you and your husband soon. Best wishes. "

" Well, we started this whole ordeal with the PCP, and when they failed to test anything other than telling him it was Sleep Anea(tested negative), his lung collasped. Then I got him to a Cardiologist when he feet sweelled so much he couldnt wear his shoes and I knew in my heart something was VERY WRONG WITH THAT. He Dx'ed DCM. After a lil more than a year trying the different meds, the cardiologist TOOK HIM OFF ALL his heart meds saying that those were causing/ complicating his already moderate/severe Hypotension, and low heart rate. I DID get his 80$ inhaler. No side effects...no effects at al yet. I also got a phone interview for him for Disability. Thing is...my usual stubborn denying husband, has spent this week "feeling like he isnt gonna make it much more,". I am just scared and crying as I write this. I cannot even tell him about his father's problem right now because I am SO SCARED it's gonna hurt him. October 21st will mark 1 year since my best friend died from DCM, and Nov. 17th will mark the 2 year since my Mom died from COPD. This is GONNA BE HARD! "
