Source of rib cage pain.

I am having shortness of breath, fatigue and pain in my rib cage. My cardiologist sent me to the ER for an EKG, chest xray and cardiac enzymes test. All tests were within normal ranges, but I still have the pain. Has anyone had these symptoms and if so, what was the dx and what was the treatment? The Doc told me to take Advil and it did not help, and he changed my BP medicine again. Any suggestions?

" I had the same symptoms. And I have arthritis in my rib cage. They said there was lots of calcification (didn't spell that right). The doctor laughed and said...getting old. They put me on a week of prednisone and some pain meds. And advised me to take it easy. It is going away slowly, but still some pain. I also was told NOT to pick up my 5 year old granddaughter anymore. And not to move furniture again. That made it worse. Oh...have you been doing a lot of coughing lately. That can cause it as well. " Have you ever heard of costochondritis? I have no idea if it's what you are dealing with, but it is one of the most common reasons for the kind of pain you are describing. Check it out--just google and you'll get some answers. The Mayo Clinic has a good overview. :o) "

" I have COPD and Right Sided Heart Failure. I broke my ribs coughing. Three of them according to my doc. The thing is though, only two actually showed up on the xray. My doc says rib breaks do not always show up in the xray and that sometimes they treat it as such based on symptoms. The bad thing is, that since I broke them coughing, they do not really heal, because with my COPD and Bronchiectasis I still cough. I first broke them almost two years ago. so, for your sake, I sure hope it is not that.
Best Wishes,
JOAnn "

" Yes, I also have broken ribs coughing. I had open heart surgery a year ago and broke them coughing after the surgery and they are still not healed because I also keep on coughing.
No, I think the gall bladder is on the right side only. "
