Update on Cardiac Rehab

I've been going to cardiac rehab for 2 weeks now. I go 3x/week. I think it is helping me since I walk on a treadmill, lift light weights, ride a recumbant bike and do an arm thing that's hard to explain. It is a good all around work out at a VERY slow pace (right now, anyway) that will be 'ramped up' as I improve. I am monitored all the time, and they take my BP before and after.

My experience so far has been positive and I'm glad my MD recommended it to me.

One caveat: I'm surrounded by people who are quite a bit older than me (I'm 50) but the fellas seem to like me! HA!

Happy thoughts to all!

Pam

" I had my heart attack when I was 39. I am so glad you are doing well with the rehab. I cured my heart but when I get to stressed I get chest pains. Welcome to your new life. There is hope. "

" I also go to cardiac rehab 3 times a week. My doctors perscribed it to me in the hospital right after my heart attack. I do the exact same things you do there, bikes, treadmills, etc. I too, have found it helpful. It really gets me active, seeing as how I don't have a gym membership and I really enjoy the company of the others in my situation! Really, the company means the most to me, as I often feel alone from this. It's cool to see 85 year old men and women who are still going, even after a few heart attacks! Keep on going and listen to what they tell you to do! Currently, my rehab is trying to help me quit smoking for good! Best of luck! "

" Hi Pam,
I go to cardiac rehab as well. I'm very glad that I go. It helps to feel like I'm not so fragile. I had to laugh at your comment about being the only and youngest woman. I'm the youngest of only 2 women. I think it's true that women don't go or aren't offered rehab as often as men. At least at my facility it's true.

" Hi Jean,
I like how you described what cardiac rehab does for you: it helps you feel you're not so fragile. That is so true. I had that same feeling but couldn't quite put it into words. I think you summed it up pretty good. And, even on a not so good day at rehab it helps me realize I am not alone in this battle.

Kudos to you for your excellent verbage!
Pam "

" You are all so fortunate, I've never heard of cardiac rehab. I don't think it is something that is offered where I live. "

" Hi Cindy
Check with your local hospital. Most have a cardiac rehab department or ask your cardiologist they will know where it is offered
