Are these symptoms 'normal?'

Hello all you club members out ther!

I know that everyone is different but this is new to me and I wonder has anyone had any of these 'symptoms' after their MI?

diarrhea
back/shoulder pain
heart 'twitches' or feels 'itchy'

My cardiologist thinks the diarrhea and back/shoulder pain is a side effect of Zocor, so she took me off the med and said it could take up to 2 weeks to see if it will get better.

She had nothing to say about my twitchy, itchy heart (Doesn't that sound like a bad country song? HA!)

I just wondered what some other experiences are since I am a newbie.

Happy thoughts to everyone!
Pam

" Hi Pam
When you say twitchy is it like a fluttering in your chest? And does it happen all the time or is it intermittent? If its intermittent it could be that you are having PVCs (premature ventricular compressions). I have these every so often and it feels like a butterfly in my chest. I would ask your doctor if it could be this. "

" Hey thanks for the posts. My cardiologist thinks the back pain and diarrhea could be from the Zocor (a cholesterol med) and has taken me off it, although she says it could take up to 2 weeks for it to get out of my system.

The 'itchy, twitchy' feeling is intermittent; it might go on for a while, but then it will get better and not happen for a while. Sometimes it does feel like butterflies in my stomach, other times it feels kind of like my heart is taking a 'pause.' I will ask my doc about PVC. Thanks again. All info is welcome.

" Hi Pam.

I didn't have the 'twitchy itchy' after they put a stent in the main blood vessel to my heart. But, I did have weird cramping the first three months afterward. I took Motrin per my doctor's suggestion.

Indeed, your meds could be the problem. But, Activia yogurt does help the digestive system, if you are allowed dairy.

Have a blessed day.

PS. Could be worse...constipation :) "

" Oh how true, Arianna! I used to have to drink Metamucil but not now! HA! I start cardiac rehab tomorrow and I believe there is some diet education involved so I will ask about Activia.

I talked with the cardiologist's nurse today and she said the itchy twitchy could be PVC; also during cardiac rehab I will be hooked up to telemetry so they may have some insight into it from that.

Thanks for all the posts and information. I really appreciated everyone taking the time to respond. It has really helped me. I have recommended dailystrength.org to friend who had a heart attack last year.

" Hi Pam
Good luck with your cardiac rehab. I just started mine on Monday for the second time. I have cardiac rehab on Mon., Wed., and Fri. and I have physical therapy for my shoulder (I had hurt it a year ago and was messed up during open heart surgery ) on Tue. and Thur.

" Hi Rich,

Good luck to you as well in both cardiac rehab and PT. I plan to post my progress so if there are other 'newbies' looking for answers they will have some idea of how it goes.

" Hello

When I had my heart attacke they put a stent. A week later my shoulders hurt and I had flutters so much so that I did not know if it was another heart attack, I went to hospital once. They told me sometimes we have these feelings or we are just stressed from the original MI.

I am 35 years old, and had a heart attack of course I was stressed about it. BTW what do you do at cardiac rehab? "
