Some books out there 'claim to reverse heart disease', but I have no idea if it's ever been proven. Read up on some natural stuff, because I think the earlier you get started educating yourself about natural remedies, the later your heart attack will happen, and you'll know what you want to do if it happens.
What we do know is FIBER Carries Cholesterol out of the body, so increase your fiber dramatically. That's one way to control your cholesterol, but they only THINK Cholesterol is linked to heart disease, it's not been proven IT is!! Start at the library and learn your way through the natural stuff. I wish I had done the same, since I had early heart disease on both sides of my family, and I had a heart attack at 36. Best of Luck to you :) Former Medical Assistant, now reading on natural stuff when I can concentrate :)

A heart attack is caused when the arteries of the heart are clogged. Blood flow is cut off from the heart, and the muscle tissue begins to die. The lack of blood flow is what causes your BP to sky rocket, and the pain/tightness is caused by the damage to the tissue.
Taking nitro-glicerine will relieve the symptoms of a heart attack. However, this is only a temporary fix often times. An angioplasty (doctor inserts a small, thin tube with a balloon attached through the groin, inserts the balloon into the arteries, inflates the balloon and uses it to pull out the blockage) is the first method attempted. If the blockage is severe, then open-heart surgery is the next move. What they do is they take arteries from your leg (small incisions) and replace the arteries in your heart with these. You are kept in ICU for 2 days, and then either moved into a regular room, or sent home. It is not uncommon to get chest pains after surgery. You are given nitro tabs for this. You are also given a pillow, because for the first few days/weeks, coughing is very painful. They close you up with a glue-like substance, not stitches. My father had this 3 years ago. I remember it all too well.
