I had an MI almost a year ago I smoked for alot of years prior to it no longer smoke I am on all the typical heart meds and suddenly in he last two weeks I began doing something I've never done before ...

...I drink coffee! ,well who doesn't right ? wrong I'm knocking it back all day long from morning to bedtime and if I could drink it in my sleep I probably would do that too . I'm not sure why this is happening but is it okay to consume coffee especially so much of it when one has a weak/er heart due to an MI ? I started drinking the coffee when I started having breathing problems ...breathing problems that have been getting a little worse each day for roughly the last 4 months. The coffee helps I'm not wired all day long and I still manage to nap in the afternoon .

" I found coffee to be pretty good for the heart. I have heard that its a vaso-dialator which means it opens up blood vessels in your body including the heart. Some people have said that coffee can sometimes stave off a heart attack. I like coffee and use to drink it like you do. Then it started giving me stomach problems so I quit. Now, I drink tea for my caffeine wake-up call. You should try doing coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon. Tea is much easier on your stomach than coffee. Best Wishes "

" Yea, coffee was great for my breathing too. I have cold induced asthma, and a hot coffee would always pull the trigger on that. I'm in FL now, so its not an issue. Best wishes. "

" If you are on Lasix or have chf you shouldn't drink coffee, I had an MI and I have chf and used to drink coffee by the pot but the heart function clinic doesn't want me to have any caffeine at all, I guess it is up to you and your Doc's. "
