" Hello my name is belle. I'm 24 years old and work as a receptionist. I lost my hearing from an ear infection that I got as a 2 year old. I was completely deaf for a few days but thankfully my hearing return to a mild/moderate hearing loss. I wear 2 small hearing aids when working and will sometimes wear them for social occasions too. I'm heading off travelling in a few weeks. "

" hey :)
I'm J and I'm 17 years old. I've been severely deaf since i was 3 years old but i presumably went for those 3 years hearing virtually nothing and it finally became apparent to doctors when i wasn't picking up speech. it was a mad rush to get me speaking and fitted with hearing aids before i started school but we did it. When i was young id didnt see myself as different but i got older and realised i was, sometimes i feel isolated and annoyed with myself if i cant hear what's going on. Meeting deaf people and learning bsl boosted my confidence lots. I have so much to say about what being deaf means, theres quite alot to say tbh.
so hai:) "

" HI. I'm Robin. I just discovered yesterday that I have moderate SN hearing loss. I get fitted Thursday for my new hearing aids. I don't know what to expect. Any suggestions or helpful hints would be welcome. I'm 47. I haven't been hearing well for over a year and went to the ENT because I had a bad cold and couldn't hear but got over the cold and still my hearing didn't come back so I thought I should get it checked out. I thought it was allergies. BOY. Was I ever WRONG! "

" i'm 28 and i was born profoundly Deaf. I am a British Sign Language (BSL) user as well as a lipreader (depends on situation :)

I have travelled a lots and learned to sign in American, Estonian, Jordanian (Arabic) and Russian. I love languages and different cultures.

I am currently having mental health problems which unfortunately include self harming and suicidual thoughts, not because i'm Deaf... at least i dont think so LOL

to everybody who is struggling about their deafness, hang in there, u can still do anything u want to do, u just have to adapt a little how you achieve your goals that all.

hugs to all "

" I have a hearing loss that runs in the family. On both sides! My grandma on mother's side was losing her hearing at about 55- 60 years old. My own Dad was losing his hearing gradually starting at 45 (?). I just remember him starting to speak louder and louder, as if challenging the other people to speak louder, too. I started noticing in my 30s, that I strained to hear at meetings at work. Finally I checked my hearing recently, in my 40s. I have better hearing at low and high sounds, and the worst in the middle. Typical familial (inherited) loss, not the age-related one.

I think my right ear is almost completely gone now, and I don't know when the other will go. I am buying cheap sound amplifying devices (that look like Blue Tooth ear phone attachments). They help in public meetings like meetings with teachers and the classes I am taking right now, but they amplify ALL the noises around (car door closing is like a bomb detonation). I don't know if the hearing aid is more sophisticated and amplifies only the sounds that I need to hear. If not, then they are not better than this cheap sound amplifier.

So far I stay at home with my kids (5 and 6) and am actually dreading if I ever had to join workforce, - because of my hearing. I would rather run my own business (making things) out of the house. Internet is a great social outlet for me. "

" Hello all,
I'm currently in the panic/anixiety disorder group but will join this one very soon. I am 42 years old, married and have 1 son. I was born with hearing loss in both ears. My mom first noticed it when I started walking as a toddler and when she would call my name I wouldn't respond when my back was turned towards her. I have sensorineural loss so unfortunately that means I cannot have an operation. I wore outer hearing aids in highschool and college and also would sit in front of the class. I now wear inner aids and noticed my hearing has gotten worse over the years and I would like to find any that are better than the ones I have now (they are digital). I'm in the process of trying to see if I want to change careers to perhaps go into teaching but I'm afraid I won't be able to hear the children! I would love to tutor/ try teaching english as a second language. "

" hi my name is amy. I am 45 yrs old andd have had a hearing loss for about 20 years. it is slowly getting worse. I also have anxiety, I've researched and from what I can understand the anxiety and hearing loss is related because it has to do with the nerves in the temporal lobe of the brain,I am also a teacher "
