Signing at Work

My boss today told me that I am not allowed to sign today while working (I have a cowrokers whose dad is Deaf, so we sign together). She says it makes people uncomfortable, pretty much the hearing people who dont sign. I have been signing for 15 years and it is my life. I'm graduating the ASL Interpreting program in June, so my life is going to be signing. I wouldn't have it any other way, I just am so passionate about ASL, signing in general. It would have been less painful if she chopped my hands off and threw them away. Is she allowed to legally tell me not to sign?

" I don't know if she can legally prevent you from signing, but you might can ask the Better Business Bureau or ADA.

Best wishes!

" I know she'll probably deny it, so it would be my word against her. How would I go about that? "

" Maybe you could ask your coworker (the one you sign with) to be a witness. If your boss told you not to sign and didn't tell your coworker, you might have a case.

Best wishes to you,

Devin "

" She only told me not to sign. It was in the back room to where no one was, so no witnesses. "

" I don't know what else to say, except maybe you could talk to her about it. Maybe if you contacted someone with the ADA, they might be able to help you with this, even though she may deny things.

Best wishes to you,

Devin "
