Idk if I m the only who noticed this, but I watched some old American movies and the interaction between women and men seemed really odd to me..it was either very awkward and stiff sometimes or more of a bizarre scenario - a guy is pursuing a woman. She clearly tells him she hates his guts and he finds it hilarious and pursue her more. At one point he grabs her and pulls her against him, she flips out ( smacks him and tells him again that she hates him even more) , they struggle, eventually he manages to lock lips with her, she goes limp, probably realizing she now really likes it, and I assume they get married and go on to sleep in twin beds for the next 40 years.
When I first saw this I found it really strange lol and it is not just one movie, it was a few like that.
What was that all about?? Is that how people really viewed sexuality back then? Or was it soft porn for the 40s?

" Rocky had a scene like that too - another very sexy scene. He did it gently though - no roughness but he did back her up against the door and trapped her. he knew she wanted it but she was so shy. "

" No offense taken at all Sjg. You know me, I love being "taken", I love him being forceful, I love being restrained and him doing whatever he wants, I love when he demands X, Y or Z from me but the difference between the scene in the movie and fulfilling a fantasy, a desire, engaging in rape fantasy, forcefull sex is the consent that is given.

I don't have to tell him every time we have sex it's ok for him to be forceful, we discussed it right from the start of our relationship and he knows he always has my consent to do whatever he wants to do, make me do whatever he wants me to do, he can be as forceful as he wants to be. He also knows that if I use my safe word, whatever he's doing is to be stopped immediately without any hesitation, my safe word means "no" and that is to be respected at all times.

Yes, years ago women were portrayed as the weaker sex and men as forceful but that doesn't make it right or acceptable today or in years gone by. "

" I don't think those type scenes were in the script,,,," The Duke" or " Bogie" just decided to take the leading lady then and there, they just kept the cameras rolling. (It could happen) "

" Most of those films are outdated thank god, where the woman is the woman and the man the man. "

" In addition, keep in mind in those times, in polite company, sex was "dirty" and something that "nice girls" didn't want. If a woman crawled into bed with a man, she was a nasty harlot. If a man pushed, it didn't make her look as bad.

In our era today, it's looked at in a far different light of course, but even to this day, we see the villain in a soap opera say nasty things, the woman goes to slap, and he pulls her up for a kiss....and though she starts to resist, she eventually gives in. "

" Sounds like something Clark Gable or Cary Grant would do!

God knows Gable as Rhett Butler tried everything under the sun to get Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara to WILLINGLY give herself to him in Gone With the Wind! She's of course infatuated with the plain vanilla Ashley Wilkes, who doesn't quite like her as much as she loves him. When all else failed, Rhett literally swept her off her feet and carried her up the red stairs of Tarah to their bed.

Fade in: Next day: She wakes up and stretches, with the biggest grin on her face, as though this is the first time she's ever been laid proper.

Ahhh...only in the movies...the J. Geils Band song, Love Stinks, would go perfectly to this movie! "He loves her...but she loves somebody else..." "
