Anyway, from a Sociobiological perspective, sex has a number of functions.
The most primary thing sex does is provide for procreation. OK, so like duh! But why does it feel so good? Simple, to make us want it. We have a very simple pleasure/reward thing going in our brains. The more something is important to us, the more pleasurable it is.
Aside from that basic biological function, there are a whole bunch of things it does for us. One is that it is the basis for lots of our sociology. Specifically, bonds between individuals are formed and strengthened by sex. Originally, in prehistory, sex was the glue that bound us together. Now days, we've got monogamy and it still is the glue we primarily consider part of being in a relationship.
Finally, as a side-effect of the whole pleasure thing, sex is an enormous stress reducer. Kind of a variant of "make love, not war".
