" I know what you mean about being hungry most of the time! I am recovering from an eating disorder and learning new and healthier ways to eat. Things that keep me full and feeling great have been:

-Grilled Chicken Salad with raisins and toasted coconut
-A banana with a little bit of peanut butter and honey
-Kashi Vive cereal
-Fiber granola bars
-Wheat pasta or rice pasta
-Lots of fruits and vegetables
-Whole wheat or whole grain breads "

" Cinnimint I think you're hitting the nail on the head. I've been involved with healthy eating for years but we never knew about the glycemic index until about 8 years ago. I've been doing beans and rice in combination for the last 25 years and laying low on things like cheese, white flour products, white sugar products, eggs in moderation only, try to eat fruits and veggies that are in season for the area you live in. I live in the northeast so am resigned to eating imported fruits and veggies during the cold months but love some sliced apple on my cereal, poached pears (gobs of recipies online) make a wonderful dessert. Winter squashes add a lot of flavor to stews and soups as well as sweetness. Spaghetti squash is amazing with any sort of a pasta topping. It's just a matter of rethinking the way we put our meals together...not such a tough order for this short order cook! "

" Yes, Campbell's makes a soup called the Southwestern Vegetable that is very delicious and low calorie (only 100 for the entire can). It is so filling that I actually feel like I went out to eat at a restaurant. I add extra spices, like cayenne pepper, to make it extra spicy so that I also drink a lot of water while I eat it. I'm so stuffed that I usually don't eat anything else the rest of the evening. Hope that helps! "
