Hello!
I was wondering if anyone has any opinions/ experience on this weight loss program and if it worth ordering. Thank you! Allison Posted on 08/07/08, 09:08 pm |

I really did not find it so; the breakfast cereals and some of the desserts are okay, but they use a lot of soy to raise the protein, and soy gives me heartburn. Also, you still have to add in your own salads, fruits, etc, so you can about as well(and a lot chaper)by just going low-carb yourself. And, the sauce that has the soy in it makes the food nasty, I think.

Thanks for responding Lynne.
I hear you on the other stuff, but will it help me lose weight in a healthy manner? I've been yanked on and off medications and have now been off them. My weight had always been between about 113-117 lbs - I went up or down a couple of pounds, it didn't matter, I was happy with my body. After this med nightmare I just found out I was 139lbs! Ouch! I just want to use it to get back to my normal weight, and then return to a healthy normal diet, but I wanted to make sure that even if it's not the tastiest stuff in the world, it's healthy and O.K. to eat just to get down to a normal size. Thanks!

One of my clients used it to jump start her baby fat loss. She liked it well enough. It did help her lose the weight. She said the foods tasted just OK, nothing stood out to her as "to die for". But like LynneC said, it will cost you extra at the grocery store.
It does make eating out and socializing difficult. I believe they have really made their food plan healthier since they were around in the '80s. I was on it then and it almost killed me!

Oh no Akie! Almost killed you? Maybe I had better re-think this, though I don't know how they could be selling this in the volume they have if it was dangerous. I'm sure the food isn't that great as far as taste goes, butI wouldn't be ordeing for more then a month or two.
I just wanted something to get this weight off, that I KNOW is not there from unhealthy eating, but from the meds and what they did to my system. Any other suggestions or advice would be appreciated and thank you all again!

As I said, I was not all that impressed; I think you could do as well if not better by researching your healthy options on the internet, and maybe modifying something like Southbeach, and it would certinly be cheaper. I have lost weight, since I found a Dr who would properly treat my thyroid problem, and I have done it not by dieting, but by making different choices in my eating habits. I eat most of my calories and protein at breakfast and lunch, and then just a light carb, more of a snack, for dinner. If I DO eat out in the evening, then I stick with salmon or some such, and concentrate on the veggies.
Nutrisystem takes the choices out of your hands, and makes them for you, hence, when you quit with their foods, you are more likely to fall back into your old habits. One more thing, for me, the portion sizes were way too large; if I ate everything they wanted me to eat in one meal, I would probably have gained weight.

Well, not really. I lost 30 pounds in less than 3 months (too fast). I was tired, my hair kept falling out in gobs, I was constipated, and everyone I worked with thought I was doing drugs! It was expensive and I realized that what I was spending a month was a nice car payment. So, I quit, frustrated, gained all the weight back as I did not learn anything about making healthy choices. This was 20 years ago when there was no "on-line" and you had to go to their centers, like a Jennie Craig thing.
I, like LynneC have been able to lose weight the old fashioned way. My client did it for about 3 months. She was successful and has kept her weight off for 6 months now. She is a runner and runs about 20-30 miles a week!

Thank you both. I think I'll skip it. Ten years ago I broke down, was put on all of these meds, and now that I'm "waking up", I'm taking a look-see in the mirror and want to cry. It adds a great deal to my depression.
It's just not me. My mind may have been a little off kilter, but I was proud of my body and want it back. I DO eat in a healthy manner, no junk at all, but I've dropped the ball on the exercise thing. I'm also going to have to deal with the "O.K., I'm ten years older and my body may be changing and I have to alter my lifestyle accordingly" stuff. *sigh* I'll look into local exercise programs and consult a nutritionist instead. The info really helped me make my decision ( which is something I seem to need help with now too! lol) Thanks very much! Allison
