My son went to the doctor and found out he has a bunch of #2 cramped up in his body. He has been having trouble going to the bathroom for a year. They told us to give him Miralex. I have been doing it but, it has helped some. What kind of foods can I give him to help with this? They said I have to continously give it to him ...every day. I feel that although it has helped some ..something else needs to be done. I just really don't know what. I can't get the doctors to do anything else. Should I change hid doctor? I would like advice on both eating and his doctors because I don't know what to do next. I appreciate any help.

" Like aussiechick said water is very crucial. Sometimes what also can help is if he likes or can tolerate very spicy foods, cayenne pepper, red pepper, any of the spicy red peppers can assist to get things rumbling and moving. A lot of herbal constipation supplements include cayenne as well as senna/and or cascara sagrada to stimulate bowel movements. Also just eat a lot of fruits and vegetables high in fiber. Exercise also helps as well. "

" Hello Genie, Raisins make me poop like mad... just sayin'. Also eating a bunch of raw green beans will do that too. Another of my favorites to get things moving is orange juice with lots of pulp in it. Celery with all its fiber is excellent, but to get things moving you have to combine it with the orange juice with lots of pulp, as well as plenty of water. I hope some of these posts will help you with your son. Keep us posted!

" Here is my sure fire method. When he wakes up he drinks 4 ounces of prune juice. In 10 minutes he drinks 2 large glasses of water and a cup of tea or coffee. Then eat breakfast. Either raisin bran or whole wheat toast and eggs. He can drink a other cup of tea or coffee. That should do it .
Also he must eat lots of leafy greens, beans, and fruits including watermelon, berries, apples, grapes, peaches and plums. Everyday!!!!
And plenty of water. Cut out white bread, rice and pasta. Go with brown rice and whole grains. What he eats and how much water he drinks is vital to his regularity. 400 mg tablet of magnesium citrate once a day will also help. "

" All the ideas are great. However, if you tell a 15 year old to drink prune juice, he is not going to do it. I get Sunsweet light plum juice. It is basically prune juice but with another name & the packaging does not say prune juice. I also find that ground flax seed is great for you for many reasons and helps with that problem. I put a scoop in my coffee but you can put it in juice. Also, a daily magnesium pill will help him with his problem and it is good for you also. Cauliflower is another great veggie. Steam it and mash it and mix it in with his mashed potatoes. He will not know the difference and he gets lots of fiber and vitamins. Good luck. "

" personally I recommend contacting a Metabolic Typing advisor. The focus is using food to balance the body and primarily each individual body is treated as unique as it is. William Wolcott is the founder and people have amazing results with many different issues. You can search on the internet and find an advisor in your area. they can do all by phone if needed as well. I am sure they will be able to help your son holistically. William Wolcott also has a book that you can read- The Metabolic Typing Diet. "
