" Was into that when I was much younger and also calculated all calories. Now, as I got older I do not see any advantages of it except it prevents you from getting pancreatic cancer in the way that you not eat fried and smoked staff that can cause it. "

" I was on a 80-90% raw food diet last year for about 6 months and found my health concerns VASTLY improved. Over the last month or more, I veered off that path, what with all the celebrations and treats, so I'm getting back on the raw food plan again but realize I need to start slow, so this week it's 50% raw, next week, 60 and so on.

For me it's a health matter, not a diet/weightloss matter, so I'm considering it as "the way things are now".

If there's anyone else on board who is a raw foodie I'd appreciate swapping recipes, and tips. "

" I totaly agree with you that you can improve your health grately that way. What I ment to say that at the period of time when you not follow raw food plan it is better to avoid eating fried, smoked and spicy staff also. Because one problem with plans is that people who follow plan for a while start eat unhealthy when they stop it for a while. "

" I basically eat raw food. I like crunchy food not mushy food. BUT sometimes in the winter when it is cold, I do have something cooked like soup or veggie chili. Several researches have discovered that eating a majority of your food raw helps prevent and also cure many medical problems.
To do this, I think you need a minset that this is what you will do for the rest of your life. For people who like to eat lots of food, this is the way to go. You can have oodles of lettuce , spinach, swiss chard, etc for next to nothing calories. "

" oops, maybe I wasn't clear

I'm on a mostly raw food programme for medical reasons, it's because I'm aware of how much of a positive impact it has on one's health, and I am already of the mindset that this is a lifetime thing, I just wasnt as disciplined over the holidays as I had been for the previous 6 months but am slowly getting back there again

I'm just hoping to get support from other people on raw food programmes, and maybe some recipes "

" I think as long as you are aware of both the advantages and disadvantages you do the best thing for your health.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/2...

Be careful of toxicity with juicing too and foods that are not organic.

Also be aware that the body needs some fat such as olive oil in the diet and its need for protein, if not eating cooked meat / fish for instance, cooked pynto beans are a good alternative, also tofu, but nuts alone I don't think will give you enough protein to sustain the body and this could mean a deficiency and poor health resulting.

Me I just do the best thing for my body and health, that means some cooked lots of fresh fruit and good mixed salads and vegetables. "

" I'm not on any kind of a program(me), but I eat only raw fruit and I eat lots of raw veggies. I like raw cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts and broccoli, along with carrots, celery and peas. Definitely not raw fish or poultry, but I like my beef seared on the outside but bloody inside. "

" Thanks Peta. Now i got it!! If it looks like a person will not be able to eat all the veggies in time before they spoil, then cook them in a casserole or soup. That way it can be frozen for a time when you are busy or do not feel like cooking. And that way also, a person is getting the benefit of eating the veggie in a cooked form which sometimes creates a different nutrient.
