Eating meat

Hi everyone,
I have recently found myself wanting to eat less meat. I think part of this is due to my getting informed about the way that cows and chickens are fed in order for them to grow quickly. I have also read a lot on the links between hormones in meat and illnesses such as cancer.
I wonder if any of you out there have gone on a similar journey, or if you have suggestions/recipes to share.

Thanks.

" I have also cut way back on meat in the last few years.
I eat lots more fruits and vegetables now.
I don't really follow many recipes, I just cook the veggies and eat them with whatever sounds good or that I have around.
I don't have a family to cook for so that makes it easy.
My daughter is college age and is rarely around the house for too long. I always have peanut butter, cheese, eggs, nuts and beans around for protein.
I like to eat some kind of protein whenever I have a fruit, such as, fresh parmesan cheese with an apple, other sharp cheese with grapes and crackers, some peanut butter with a banana, cottage cheese with some blueberries.
I started oven roasting mushrooms to keep on hand to mix into rice or put on top of a homemade BBQ chicken pizza on which I add onion and green pepper. I only need one chicken breast to thinly slice on top of the pizza and I usually fix it without the cheese.
Just a few idea there to give you a start. "

" I have eaten less meat in the past few months. Maybe because my total cholesterol number was high. Nothing to worry about, but I became more aware of meat as a food group. I try to eat more fish. I love cheese and peanut butter and have milk on cereal. I've lost my last 15 or so pounds. I know that cutting back on meat consumption has helped. I don't think I'll ever be a complete vegetarian. I wonder what they call an occasional meat eater? "

" Hi,
I tend to avoid eating meat and find many various recipes for dinners without meat, this is a recipe and a dinner I love is full of good nutrients and fills u up and not too many calories:
DRIED BUTTERBEAN SOUP IN OVEN
2 cups dried butterbeans
4 fresh tomatoes
2 onions
5 carrots
bunch of celery
First soak the dry butterbeans in water over night, next day boil them till slightly soft and put saucepan to side with water that they were boiled in. In another saucepan put some olive oil, chopped onions, carrots and celery and saute when carrots slightly soften add grated tomatoe ( I also put lil tomatoe from can puree) let all this cook for lil and add all this into the saucepan with the boiled beans and water cook for 15 mins add salt and pepper and then put in ovenproof dish and cook in oven for an hour. There u have a healthy vitamin packed dinner, very tasty too............. "

" We eat less meat, mainly by using smaller portions. If you adhere to the recommended portion size, it is a lot less than is normally served.

Also, you can get clean meat. Meat that is raised without hormones or antibiotics, on family farms with lots of space and living a normal, happy life, you know, for a cow. "
