Advice:
Need advice for nausea, vomiting...

Hi, I have been having lots of problems with nausea, vomiting and weight loss. I have been trying to keep track of what things make it worse such as my medications and certain foods and beverages. I am trying to revamp my whole diet at present because it's getting very problematic.

Does anybody have any suggestions for preventing stomach upset and what to do to minimize it? I am and have been doing soda crackers and tea, but still I end up with less than 500 calories a day this past year... definitely not healthy eating.

" I had a similar problem after my Dr tried me on Effexor; I did not make it through the introductory phase! Once I quit taking the Effexor, I still ahd trouble, so my Dr put me on Misoprostol; a drug used to help with stomach lining problems after taking NSAIDs. It has helped me, but you have to be careful with it. Definitely off-limits if you are pregnant, as it can cause you to miscarry. There are other concerns, but, for me, being able to eat again was worth it! "

" the two best things that work for me when I get bouts of nausea. Ginger ale ( stir it up to make it flat get the fizz out) sip on it all day long. Then after I get it under control I add a good pro biotic or eat a lot of yogurt. But get healthy yogurt like stoneyfield to many of them have high frutose corn syrup in them so look for a more natural one read the lable. "

" Hey Gypsy,

I am holistic and rely on natural remedies. Nausea (and vomiting) are some of the symptoms that I experience in response to PTSD triggers. Here are some natural remedies that I can suggest:

•Smelling (not ingesting) peppermint oil helps lots with nausea. Peppermint, when used internally such as in tea also soothes the stomach.
Oftentimes, with certain triggers, I get what I call the "hot spits," which precipitates vomiting. I have found that forcing myself to burp helps to trip this response; although is somewhat embarrassing. Works for me to prevent heaving.

It is always very subjective. Being holitic-minded, I am (of course) inclined to encourage identification of the source of the reaction and employ other strategies to combat it.

For me it is stress.

Hope this is helpful. "
