How bad is ice cream for you? What if you were to eat a little every day. In saying that, a little, being like a good 3 to 4 scoop fulls using a table spoon. Lol.
I ask this because I am absolutely ADDICTED to it the now XD A friend told me it isn't thaaat bad for you because its dairy :S but I imagine it isn't all thaaat good for you either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated =) Posted on 04/06/08, 03:04 pm |

Read the ingredients in anything you eat.
You will then know what is good or bad for your health.

Sometimes, you have to play to your weaknesses. By that, I mean if you know it is an addiction, then indulge it a little, and savor each bite. Do not feel guilty about it, just make sure that your other choices are good ones.

I think a small portion per day isn't unhealthy as you do need dairy. Assuming you are not lactose intolerant. If you are worried about sugar or fats look into some of the light or no fat products. They are pretty tasty these days.
I have a weekness for Blue Bunny double strawberry. I get the light and it tastes great.

I don't think there's anything wrong with small amounts of ice cream. Check out the ingredients, though, and look for ice creams that are actually made with milk, cream, and sugar, and not a lot of artificial junk that you don't need. (Breyer's is pretty good in this regard.) If you want to get the low fat kind, just remember that its basically nothing but sugar. Its just a matter of what actually bothers you more--fat or sugar (my body doesn't handle sugar well, so if I eat ice cream, I go for the full-fat kind).

There are also alternatives to ice cream, Organic Rice Divine by Good Karma. It is made with brown rice and is so delicious. My opinion if you can't pronounce the ingredients don't eat it. That is something that I follow.

In moderation, there is nothing wrong with enjoying ice cream, especially if it makes you feel good. Actually ice cream is more beneficial than a slice of white bread.

Have you ever considered soy ice cream? Over the past few years, many companies have developed soymilk-based ice creams that are just as creamy, rich, and delicious as cow's milk ice cream...if not better (see http://www.turtlemountain.com/ for excellent easy-to-find brands).
While these soy ice creams taste the same as cow's milk ice cream, the main difference lies in the vastly different nutritional profile between the two: unlike its cow's milk counterpart, soymilk-based ice cream has much less fat, none of the saturated fat, none of the cholesterol, and is usually fortified with calcium and vitamin D. In addition, soymilk-based ice creams are often made with more quality ingredients overall, using thickeners such as natural evaporated cane juice and agave nectar instead of corn syrup and processed/artificial sweeteners. Finally, soymilk-based ice creams possess none of the free-radical causing and artery-clogging animal fats and proteins that have been proven to be a direct link to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and chronic disease. All of the ingredients are plant-based and many often contain cancer-fighting properties (such as soy isoflavones!). (And if you're allergic to soy...well, see Turtle Mountain's brand which is made with coconut milk, or visit ricedream.com). So there you go--all of the pleasures of ice cream can be safely-- and even healthily enjoyed every day! Just avoid animal products and even the most decadent desserts become completely guilt-free! (;

I would look for natural ingredients more than I would fat free or light varieties; very often, the ingredients that make them so are not as good for you. Just remember, moderation is the key.
