Aetna's New Program

Guys, I just received a phone call from my insurance carrier, Aetna. Apparently, they have a new program called Mind-Body. I received a call from a nurse with a background in psychology and we spoke about various methods, approaches, etc to better my overall lifestyle She may be called sort of a health "coach". Very interesting.
We talked for at least an hour, and she said she would follow up with me in 3 weeks. She mentioned various programs that would enhance my health and lifestyle and gave me a few pointers. I wonder has anyone else had a phone call like this? I found it odd coming from an insurance company, but then I got to thinking.... if they help with prevention, there will be less illness. If people knew of resources to help, less burden. I hope I am correct in this assumption. Insurance companies have not had a good reputation, and this is the first call I have EVER received of this nature. Posted on 04/02/10, 07:24 pm |

That nurse is considered an investigator and can be called to offer testimony in court.

Please call your insurance agent and ask him about this. This should be investigated further. Also be alert for any money transactions. This nurse may try to sell you some kind of policy or medicines. Do not ever give money to anyone you do not know. I have not heard of such a thing you describe. Like I said, call Aetna and find out if this person works for them.

On the note of PREVENTION...when a small business or self-employed individual is faced with purchasing private coverage (and income has been lost as it has for so many in this economy) the premiums are astronomical and some can only afford "catastrophic" policies. This is VERY common so people can have SOMETHING. With deductibles like $10,000 EACH member (what we had before we HAD to cancel Aetna,) what is left for prevention? All the money is being spent on monthly premiums. I would not go to the doctor, get a test or a checkup for ANY reason other than unbearable PAIN.

I had the same thing happened to me when I was on BCBS Florida, and yes it is about prevention. A lot of insurance companies have come to realized that having Nurses in the staff that will help their patients with preventative medicine is a plus to all, so you are probably are going to get a letter from her soon and a brochure about their "wellness" services. It is completely harmless but just in case, be careful on what you say to her, OK? Take care,

I understand were everyone is coming from, but I would just like to afford health insurance. The insurance companies hire nurses and if they are RN's then the make about $28 an hour. seems like people would want that money spent on them not paying a nurse to tell you what she has been told by the insurance company to say.

This is a real policy and more insurers are proviiding this service. I know of other major insurers who use some form of preventative coaching. Some also offers discounts that are available to cut costs on things that might not be covered under your polciy, like glasses, weight loss programs, etc.
The nurses are not using the information to prevent you from getting services or to harm you. Their goal is to help you be healthier and therefore, help keep insurance costs down
