President's Healthcare Speech

I'm still mad, even after listening to his beautiful oratory. My concerns were addressed with the same answers I've been hearing for months.

I must buy insurance I have no money for.

My children must buy insurance they have no money for, meaning we must pay for it. How?

We lost everything we ever had due to disease; our house, our home, our credit, and everything we owned as we sold it off trying to keep up with payment prior to all being taken. There is almost nothing left to sell and even if we did, it wouldn't pay one month's premium.

I write checks every month to pay for an ER visit and doctor visits I incurred two years ago. I cannot afford to go to the doctor now.

Who are the people getting free ER visits? I had no insurance and even after making payments, still owe 1000's dollars.

Our 20 yr old student had an accident in January ’09. She had no insurance. We are still paying for her ER visit and do not have the cash for the needed physical rehab nor ANY doctor visit she now needs. Free? I don't think so.

Even though we were making small monthly payment, they turned the bills over to a collector and ruined a 20 yr old’s credit.

She is single and has no children so she doesn’t qualify for public assistance. Even if she gets a discounted policy, how are we going to pay for it?

We make 2 dollars over the poverty level therefore we qualify for zero, no Medicaid, no medicare, no nothing.

So now the president says I have to buy insurance - not just mine but hers too. What if our two kids just above her lose their jobs and cannot afford it?

The young one works full time flipping hamburgers and is a full time student (we also pay 100% of her education). She doesn’t make enough money to pay for health insurance.

Or I can choose to pay a fine up to $3800 per year? Some choice!

After decades of employment, we are disabled beyond the point of ever being able to work again so tax credits won’t help us pay insurance premiums. Don’t quite meet the poverty line.

According to Massachusettes mandatory insurance website, a couple in Boston with zero children with a household income of either $45k or $47 – much, much, much higher than ours - can choose the lowest cost policy – at more than $700 per month. I might as well go stand in the freeway.

So, as usual, we are of the masses who worked our entire lives now we fall into the never ending cracks between the poverty level and the working poor.

Sigh…

" The floor is yours. Go for it.

PS, by the way your long list of things that are the President's responsibility. Well, he isn't a miracle worker, give him a chance to try and pray to God that he succeeds. You are in this world right along with me. Shutters and all. LOL "

" This is such a hot topic, I waited a few days to respond. As some one who works in health care, I have to state that there have all ready been many cuts in medicare.

Home care was invented because it cost to much to keep someone in the hops. It was cheaper to send them home with care. in most cases a patient will recover more quickly in their on home. The goal was to teach them how to take care of them selfs. The reality of this, is some patients are not capable of doing this, because they are simply to sick, or just need constant reminders. Or they just require more care.

In recent years, our government has said the cost of home care is to much now too !!! So now they pay X amount of dollars for each illness and tell us that we have to do more with less. Not every patient recovers at the same rate of speed. Some need physical therapy longer then others, some have wounds that need to be cared for longer, and so on. None of that matters.

In home care it is nothing to drive 200 or more miles in oneday ! So if you continue to make patient visits and are not being paid as some of us have done, it becomes a losing battle.

all though I strongly believe that we need health care reform, I beleive with all my heart, that President Obama's plan is not going to work. As a country we need to make sure that we do this right. Congress, and the democate party need to listen to those who are in health care. I disagree with pushing a bill through as fast as President Obama wants to do. Mistakes are going to be made, and this is our healthcare.

My son who is 23, has no health insurance, he's unemployed. He was attacked on May 2, of this year. He took 9 blows to the head, was left for dead. The Er doctor stated that who ever did this wanted him to die. his nose was broken. He needs to have suregry to repair the damage. However with out insurance, its not an option. We are still paying for the er care. The police told us it was attempted murder. They found the person who did this, but never found the weapon, so now its just simple assualt. The case has still not gone to court yet, and we don't know if it ever will go to court. The system really sucks. My point in this was to say my son can not breath the right way now, but he was given just enough medical attention to save his life. Obama care is in the end going to be the same as in order to save money, the health care system will have to make cuts. Drs. won't be making the cuts. Someone in government will be telling the drs. this is what you can do. learn to do more with less. its being done right now.

I use to go in the inner city for patient visits. I did wound care. Medicare will not pay for all the Bells and whistles. I was amazed at the creativity of the drs. the things that we did, with vit E and tripple antibotic cream from the dollar store, because people in the inner city can not afford the things that welthy people can afford.

Health care is my passion and I am just venting away. I have been fighting the system for years, in an effort to provide better care for the elderly. "
