" Surely you jest...!? Oh, you can get insurance, but "affordable???" That's another matter. If you have no pre-existing conditions and haven't needed to see a doctor in forever, maybe you'll be okay. I'm in GA and have gone round with a few in the 15+ years my h has been self-employed. The Dave Ramsey site recommends Assurant Health, but be advised they are the worst at putting you through the wringer with the underwriting process. They have deemed both of us "uninsurable." We had BC/BS, but they kept jacking up the rates. We now have Aetna (which is small business policy), catasprophic policy we can barely afford.

You can always try e health insurance.com to get quotes online.

If you have never bought individual insurance, there's a few things you need to know...? "

" If I were you I would get in touch with an insurance agent and get some quotes. Some plans are very affordable and they are all very customizable to meet your needs. I would get quotes from at least 3 different agents as they all offer different plans. Remember, any premiums you pay are a tax write-off.

If you are self-employed, look into whether your local chamber of commerce offers group imsurance. I got my insurance that way for years.

If you have a very low income, consider going to the Department of Human Services in your county and apply for Medicaid. "

" By the way, I was eligible for affordable insurance even though I have some VERY expensive health conditions. "
