surgery?

I was right handed until redently, when a joint problem, combined with breaking my hand made it quite painful to use it. I've been trying physical therapy and wearing a brace for a year now, but there has been little improvement.

There is a surgery that the doctors think could fix it, but it is really expensive, and I'm scared. What do you think that I should do?

" well you said your not getting anywhere with what your doing now...so maybe surgery is worth trying. it might be expensive but would you rather be pain for the rest of your life?!? and you don't have to be scared...i had surgery on my left hand this past october, and all went fine...i have to have another surgery next october...but it only took like 2 months for me to recover and i will be playing volleyball this fall...so i'd say its worth doing! " Definitely research the procedure, as well as ask your doctor for ALL POSSIBLE DOWN SIDES to the surgery.

(I had "simple" bunionectomies 6 years ago, as my doctor put it, and didn't even think anything could go wrong. He said, "Oh, we can fix that!" Anyway, I never walked normally afterward, lost my job, house, even now my pets, and am in a power chair with extreme nerve pain and cannot walk at all). That one "little" decision totally changed my life.

Ask how many of those same procedures your doctor has done.

Ask if ANY of those outcomes had a negative outcome.

Go to a second doctor (try to go to someone really good) - ask around, and GET A SECOND opinion. A costly surgery isn't necessarily the best answer, even if it were for FREE it's not the best answer. Surgery is a FINAL decision and cannot be changed back once you make it.

What exactly is the procedure, if I may ask? "
