Confused!

Just found out 2 weeks ago that I have HPV. Have been married for almost 8 years, but have spent the past 11 years with the same partner. I do not have GW - and don't know the exact strain of HPV I have. My concern, questions, and confusion - is how long can this be dormant before presenting itself? The nurse from my doc's office made it sound like it's no big deal. She even went as far to say that if I've ever had multiple partners - or my husband has - that our chances of having HPV are high. (We both had previous relationships - but very conservative in numbers).
The only abnormal pap I had was 14 years ago, and upon doing another pap - I was in the clear. (My guess was false positive from the lab). So - could I have been with someone whom I contracted HPV almost 12+ years ago? Or should I be worried about my husband? (I did ask him about his faithfulness. He said, "I've never been outside our marriage before." Then upon further prodding from me - he said never outside of "us." (meaning before we got married). But he never said, "I never cheated on you." (Which is how I would've phrased it if I were being questioned). Is it true that guys can't be tested? Any advice appreciated. I know that it's alot to take in. i just found out about one month ago (been married for 8yrs together for 11yrs..two kids)
My nurse @ my gyn office said that HPV CAN lay dormant for decades w/o ever having any symptoms(both high and low risk), is as common as the cold/flu(over 80% of women will have contracted the virus by age 50), ISN'T A SIGN OF INFIDELITY, you'll NEVER know who gave it to who, about 90% of pple who have it fight and suppress/clear the vius naturally from 6 months to two yrs! Right now trying to figure who gave it to who..it's mute.. don't accuse your hubby..guys can't be tested. Right now the two of you need to do a couple of thinngs: 1. Find out what type of HPV you have (low risk causes warts/no cancer risk increase..high risk causes increased risk of certain cancers..although still slim..even more rare in males) 2. STOP smoking/drinking.. 3. eat healthy (veggies/fruits/ leafy greens) 4. take multi w/ folic acid (may even want to take an extra folic supplement). The nurse @ my gyn told me to take the multi w/ folic and the L-lysine (both help the body in cell maintenance, production, repair damaged cells.) Found out about a supplement called Papillex from some other HPV support communities (it's a natural supplement reccommended by naturopathic docs to boost/support the immune system. 5.try not to stress..know easier said than done..but try..stress weakens the immune system hope this helps

there is no test for guys so there is no way to know if it came from him. It's totally possible you got it 12 years ago. Most of the time it's because your immune system was weakened somehow. Unless you let it escalate to cancer and you monitor yourself- if your paps are normal you have nothing to worry about. unless you are having unprotected sex with some one who might give it to another female I wouldn't be concerned. I have both high and low risk HPV- I should go in this month to get checked again, praying I'll have a normal pap this time around. If you tested positive it was not false, it just means your body has cleared the abnormal cells. Just make sure to keep your immune system up and get your regular paps every six months to a year to make sure it doesn't reoccure
