Hey Guys, I was diagnosed two weeks ago with HPV and have CIN1. Low risk. I am having a LEEP procedure done on Fri....has anyone else had one of these? Just wondering what it's like.

I was placed on anesthesia - so I was pretty much asleep the whole time. My doctor told me that the procedure itself lasts about 20 minutes (30 min at the most). They woke me up and it was all done. I spent the rest of the day getting some rest. I don't remember experiencing any pain at all. I wasn't allowed to have sex or douche or use tampons for the next 6 weeks though.

Thanks!
I know I am not being put under because they didn't tell me I had to have someone come with me to drive me home. I think she told me it would take about 10-15 minutes, which was the same for the colposcopy too. And I think I did read all that about the 6 wks no sex, tampons, etc. I have endometriosis too so I already deal with a tremendous amount of pain...having paps hurt me, so I will expect some amount of pain. The colposcopy did hurt a little...it felt more like a stinging though.

Yeah - I would imagine it to hurt without any anesthesia. Best of luck to you though :)

You're not alone. I've had it done, too. Ya, get knocked out, have someone to drive you home and take it easy for a cpl of weeks. It's not that bad, but you don't need to push it,either. Don't be afraid to ask your doc a ton of questions. I find they really don't tell you a lot unless you ask. You're in my thoughts. Hang in there and take care. Keep us updated,k. ~hugs~

I don't think she'll do it with anesthesia...I will probably having some numbing medication. I am off work that day so I will take it pretty easy...I will be sure to let you know how it goes!

I had the LEEP yesterday. It took just five minutes...the worst part was getting shots to numb my cervix. And then after it I was really crampy and uncomfortable...still am today. BUt otehrwise went fine.

I didn't get put to sleep like some others here. Christine,
I agree that the worst part was getting the shots to numb the cervix. Just know you are on a good road ahead as you have taken action. It is fearful to know how many people out there don't get pap smears done and don't even know they have HPV. I think its a MUST that the media encourages people to go for hpv testing or pap smears as this is something that has continuously increased in our population.

I had 4 shots. I felt the first one and barely the second and then nothing after that. I am not sure how long the needles were, I was laying down and couldn't see anything.
