Hi, I'm in the same position. I had LEEP in June last year. I had one normal pap and the one just returned to me, is showing abnormal cells again. I am going to the hospital for colposcopy again. I have a friend who also had a LEEP last year and she has CIN1. I keep monitoring you in this position until it turns to CIN2. What can we do, but hope it turns out ok. If not, it's back to LEEP again. I had a friend who has had two LEEPS and she is fine 5 years on. It won't turn to cancer but I guess, the worse thing is that we just lose more cervix time after time.
I am confident if I keep stress levels low (not easy) and eat right, I'll get better. I wish the same for you too.

I was just wondering why you needed a leep. I had a colp 7 months ago and i have to get another one and i'm becoming curious if i will need a leep becasue that's what i hear everyone talking about.

This virus is extremely confusing, even to the doctors. Every doctor has his/her own school of thought on how to deal with it. I think way too much LEEP is being done. I am 56. (it can be less likely to resolve when you are older) I was diagnosed with HPV almost 3 years ago now. At first my PAP was normal, but positive for HPV. My doctor (who is one of Cleveland's "top docs")did a colposcopy. She saw two small white areas (they paint the cervix with a vinegar solution and any area that turns white is supsicious). The colposcopy is just using a machine (colposcope)that has a very bright light to illuminate the cervix, by the way, colposcopy itself is not a procedure. She did not even do a biopsy. With all her experience she knew the areas were not too bad. She just took a really good sample for the repeat PAP. I ended up having mild dysplasia. She just wanted to watch and wait. It stayed mild dysplasia for the next two PAPS, then AS-CUS, the most mild abnormality, and on my last PAP the dysplasia was gone, on its own. I never even had a biopsy. I have to go back again to see if the virus itself is gone, but she just wants to do a regular PAP, no colposcopy. LEEP does NOT get rid of the virus, that is a great misconception. It just removes the abnormal cells, and often takes the virus in that particular area with it. My doctor had told me that even after a hysterectomy HPV can show up on the vulva or vagina. She doesn't believe in doing LEEP unless CIN 11 or worse is present. LEEP can cause scar tissue which makes it tough to see the tranformation zone. (a reason to avoid it if not necessary, even at my age) CIN 1 hardly ever progress to something more serious, but it is the first 2 years that have to be closely monitored to see if the dysplasia clears or progresses, or just stays the same. After LEEP, even when you test negative for HPV, it doesn't mean that the infection has gone from the body, just that it is no longer in the area where they removed the cells. The problem is that HPV has become so common that almost everyone will test positive for the virus, even with no abnormalities. I think there is way too much testing and too many procedures. Because you are young and want children, having repeat procedures can cause some problems down the road....although it does NOT mean that you will not be able to conceive or have children, it can just cause some issues during pregnancy. These can be addressed and resolved, but why cause an issue if it is unecessary? You might want to get a second opinion from another doctor. If you don't feel you can communicate with your doctor about any concerns you have, you should find someone you do feel that comfortable with.

Take care of yourself, take supplements that help heal the cervix (there are many posts on this site addressing what you can take), and don't smoke or have unprotected sex with a smoker...this is very important.

I hate the way this virus has so many women in a panic. I think because the drug companies that make the vaccine want to sell it to everyone, it has created a certain hysteria. I think that every young woman who is sexually active SHOULD get the vaccine.....but this virus has been around for years...it is ALWAYS what caused abnormal PAPS and occasionally led to cervical cancer...they just did not know that, and they didn't have a DNA test. It has always mostly been women who did not get regular PAP tests that ended up with cervical cancer, even with the very aggressive strains.

CIN 1 can always just be monitored.

Hi I'm 34 and I have never had any pap smear done in my entire life until last year August, then the report showed I had abnormal cells with suggestive of CIN1-2. So I had a minor surgery done 2 months after - cone biopsy. Then followed up with pap smear test again 4 months after the surgery, the report showed normal. But when I did another follow up last July, result was abnormal again - CIN 1. It just came back within 5 months and I still cannot understand. This time I had LEEP done just 2 weeks ago. I didn't know CIN 1 can just be monitored without doing any procedures until I read the article from dancinblond. For now I'll just have to wait for another 4 months later and do a pap smear test again.
Do not worry too much, like Suzie80 said, it's important to keep stress level low, as well as exercise regularly that helps to boost your immune system.

Hi! I totally agree with dancinblond. Wish I had read this before I had the LEEP procedure done some years ago. Just found out that the virus is back but waiting for further tests to see what stage. I'm pretty sure it'll just be CIN1 again and the only thing I'm going to do about it is have a pap test again in 6 months.
I'm also having other problems and I have a new doctor who seems to be ready to just cut into me at any moment, so I'm going to switch doctors :)
